The Christmas Sheep Part 2

And there were in the same country shepherds abiding in the field, keeping watch over their flock by night. Luke 2:8

Again as we think about Christmas, we think about the Nativity scene, we think about the baby Jesus being surrounded by sheep. Here we see Shepherds out at night with their sheep. This was very common in Bethlehem as its biggest industry was the raising of sheep

Now I want you to picture yourself as those sheep. You are out in the world, doing your own thing, when suddenly your going to hear the Good News of Jesus Christ

And, lo, the angel of the Lord came upon them, and the glory of the Lord shone round about them: and they were sore afraid. And the angel said unto them, Fear not: for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people. For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord. And this shall be a sign unto you; Ye shall find the babe wrapped in swaddling clothes, lying in a manger. Luke 2:9-12

An angel, which is the translation of the Greek word angelos, meaning messenger. A messenger from God told them the Good News (gospel) that a Savior has been born for the entire world! Not only that here is the sign! The sign is a baby lying in a manger.

Now remember God gave a previous sign to Isaiah, saying a Virgin will give birth to a Son (Isaiah 7:14) Now another sign, that Son is lying in a manger. So what do you do? Remember the sheep of Jesus listen to his voice. Those who are the sheep of Jesus answer his calling

And it came to pass, as the angels were gone away from them into heaven, the shepherds said one to another, Let us now go even unto Bethlehem, and see this thing which is come to pass, which the Lord hath made known unto us. Luke 2:15

So the sheep led by the shepherds made their way to Bethlehem to see their Savior. Are you answering the voice of the Shepherd? Are you making your way to the manger to sit beside the Savior?

Become Righteousness

For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him. 2 Corinthians 5:21

Why did Jesus need to be born of a virgin to live among us? For God made Jesus, who was sinless, to become our sin , so we can be made righteous before God. Why would God do this for us? Why would God have so much compassion and mercy on a wicked creation? Because of love, because God loved us before we loved him

But of course, Jesus didn’t need to be born, he chose to be born. He chose to come down here in human form to live among us because he loves us. He chose to become our sin for us to be our eternal Passover Lamb. He chose to reveal himself to the lowly and the meek. Those whose hearts and minds are not hardened have allowed the living Lord to enter into their lives

Most people cant even grasp the concept of God, let alone understand that the Creator of the Heaven and Earth, would intervene in our world. That the Creator would become a creation and take on the penalty of our sin. Can you grasp such a concept? Of course not and then we learn this divine revelation happened in the lowest of place. God would become human in a stable?

This was declared and celebrated by all the angels of Heaven, are you coming to see what God has done? The very thought should bring you to your knees in repentance and praise! Glory to the new born King Amen!

The Christmas Sheep Part 1

My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me: John 10:27

When we think about Christmas, we think about the Nativity scene. And when we think about the Nativity scene we envision the baby Jesus in a manger surrounded by animals. Well its most likely one of those animals are sheep. Especially since Bethlehem was known as the birthing place of sheep, especially for the Passover

Jesus says “My Sheep hear my voice and they follow me”. Think about it why did you answer the calling of Jesus and others didn’t? Of course the Holy Spirit intervenes, however you are Jesus faithful Sheep. You are the Sheep Jesus is talking about. If you follow Christ you are his sheep

Now when you look at the Nativity scene, and you see the baby Jesus surrounded by sheep. I want you to envision that you are those sheep. You are at the manger with Jesus. You might say “This is crazy, Jesus is a baby, the sheep are dumb and dirty, ect” Jesus said “Unless we become like little children we cant see the Kingdom of God”

Humble yourself before the King. If you are a follower of Christ, you are his Sheep.

And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand. John 10:28

Jesus gives us the greatest gift of eternal life. A gift that cant be bought, but by the blood of Christ. A gift that cant be found in this world except at the manger. If you are his sheep , nobody can pluck you out of the Shepherds hand!

Come to the manger, and sit down with the Savior. You have answered his calling and he will save you Amen!

Gifts from God

Or what man is there of you, whom if his son ask bread, will he give him a stone? Or if he ask a fish, will he give him a serpent? If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children, how much more shall your Father which is in heaven give good things to them that ask him? Matthew 7:9-11

During this Christmas season many people give each other gifts. You probably buy someone you love a gift to try and show them you appreciate or a sign of gratitude. Typically when you buy someone you care about a gift , you want to get them something they will actually enjoy or appreciate

Jesus teaches us here how our Heavenly Father wants to do the same for us. When you sit down in a restaurant typically they put out a basket of bread. How would you feel if they put out a basket of rocks? You probably would be surprised, maybe even insulted. This is what Jesus is teaching us, our Heavenly Father wants a relationship with us, not a dictatorship

Now lets not get this wrong, this is not promoting prosperity gospel. Jesus is not saying God wants us to be rich or have lots of material things. Because true gifts from God are eternal and not temporal like this world. God has given us the ultimate gift of Grace through our Lord Jesus Christ!  God has given us the gift of his written word (The Bible), God has given us the gift of the Holy Spirit (That lives inside of us), most importantly God gave us the gift of his only begotten Son Jesus Christ!

Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning. James 1:17

Anything good in this world is a Gift from God. Love is a gift from God, Hope is a Gift from God, Compassion is a gift from God, Life itself is a gift from God. Ect

Many things that we take for granted are gifts from God. Give thanks to God everyday, for He loves you and created these things to share with you as his Child Amen!

The Tree Part 4

And he shewed me a pure river of water of life, clear as crystal, proceeding out of the throne of God and of the Lamb. In the midst of the street of it, and on either side of the river, was there the tree of life, which bare twelve manner of fruits, and yielded her fruit every month: and the leaves of the tree were for the healing of the nations. Revelation 22:1-2

As we conclude our series on The Tree. First we saw that a Tree in the Garden of Eden is where Sin entered into the world putting us under the curse of death. Second we saw that a Tree on the hill at Calvary brought our salvation as Jesus Christ paid for the wages of our sins. Third, we saw that the Tree is representation of the Church, as the unbelieving branches are broken off and those who do accept Christ are grafted into the root Jesus Christ.

Today we take a look at how in the New Heavens and Earth, that is Gods eternal Kingdom to come, there will be a Tree of Life. This Tree will provide “the healing for all nations” Just as the Garden of Eden, God will provide perfect food for our new immortal bodies in His eternal Kingdom

And by the river upon the bank thereof, on this side and on that side, shall grow all trees for meat, whose leaf shall not fade, neither shall the fruit thereof be consumed: it shall bring forth new fruit according to his months, because their waters they issued out of the sanctuary: and the fruit thereof shall be for meat, and the leaf thereof for medicine. Ezekiel 47:12

The Prophet Ezekiel reveals that same thing, God will provide Trees of Life that will produce new fruit every month and will provide healing for everyone!

So the next time you look at the Christmas Tree or gaze at any tree, remember God and everything that he has provided and done for us. Most importantly remember Jesus Christ, who by his sacrifice on The Tree and the shedding of his blood, we may inherit eternal life Amen!

Lower Than The Angels

But we see Jesus, who was made a little lower than the angels for the suffering of death, crowned with glory and honour; that he by the grace of God should taste death for every man. Hebrews 2:9

When we think about Christmas, when we think about Christ being born. We envision the night sky being filled with angels , singing and glorifying the birth of our Messiah. Think about this, the very angels that Jesus Christ himself created are now glorifying His birth

This is a strange concept to grasp and understand. The Creator becoming the creation, but he did this to pay the price for our sins. As it is written, Jesus lowered himself below the angels. The Lord of Lords took a step down and became human to pay the wages of our sins.

So while Christmas is a joyful time because the Christ has come! Its also a sorrowful time, because of our disobedience Jesus had to become us and die for us. Its wonderful to know we have a Creator who loves us enough to do this, but its sad to think Jesus had to do this.

So while Christmas begins at the manger, we know it eventually goes to the cross Jesus mission was to set the captives free from sin and death. And of course the mission was complete when he rose from the grave after 3 days, defeating every stronghold against us.

Hopefully we can reflect on this and know, Jesus is so worthy to be worshipped and praised! Amen!

The Tree Part 3

For if the firstfruit be holy, the lump is also holy: and if the root be holy, so are the branches. And if some of the branches be broken off, and thou, being a wild olive tree, wert graffed in among them, and with them partakest of the root and fatness of the olive tree; Romans 11:16-17

As we continue our series on using the analogy of the Christmas Tree and how the tree is very symbolic throughout the Bible. Today we look at how The Tree is symbolic of The Church.  First the Apostle Paul talks about The Root, what or who is the Root? According to the Bible, the Root is Jesus Christ (Isaiah 11)

Because Christ became our Sin so we may be made righteous before God (2 Corinthians 5:21), because Christ is holy we are made holy through Him. Now some branches have been broken off while others have been grafted in

The branches are symbolic of us, those who reject Christ are broken off. Those who come to Christ and enter into his New Covenant with him are grafted in. You see Jesus being the Root, and we are the branches. We can only be grafted in by receiving his grace. You see the unity of the body of Christ with the symbolism of The Tree

Well; because of unbelief they were broken off, and thou standest by faith. Be not highminded, but fear: For if God spared not the natural branches, take heed lest he also spare not thee. Romans 11:20-21

The branches that are broken off are those who have rejected Christ. Notice God will not even spare the “Natural Branches” if they don’t receive Jesus as their Lord. The Natural Branches are the descendants of Abraham. Its only by Christ you can be saved, there is no other way to The Father (John 14:6)

Scepter Is Born

Your throne, O God, will last for ever and ever; a scepter of justice will be the scepter of your kingdom. Psalm 45:6

Scepter– royal or imperial power or authority , sovereignty

Remember all power and authority has been given to Jesus Christ (Matthew 28:18) He is the Scepter, this is a prophecy of the coming of our King.

Christmas is a time to remember the birth of our Scepter, Jesus Christ. The Son of the Living God delivered to us to establish Gods kingdom that will last forever. There will be no end to the reign of Jesus Christ. His throne has been established on that day in the manger.

Jesus is the King of Kings and Lord and Lords (Revelation 19:16) Its time to rejoice and give thanks for your new born King. The King that has overcome the world, The King that was willing to lay down his life for us.

Is Jesus the King of your Kingdom? Have you accepted Christ as your Lord and Savior? This Christmas season get the gift of life, the gift that is eternal and will never fade away. By the power of the Blood of Christ, we are victorious! The throne of God has been established in Jesus Name Amen!

The Tree Part 2

Who his own self bare our sins in his own body on the tree, that we, being dead to sins, should live unto righteousness: by whose stripes ye were healed. 1 Peter 2:24

As we move through the Christmas season, we are using the Christmas Tree as a symbol of where our salvation came from. In the first part, we read the Sin was actually entered into the world from Tree. And today we’ll see that salvation actually came from a Tree through Jesus Christ!

The Apostle Peter is actually quoting the prophet Isaiah here (Isaiah 53) Jesus bore the penalty for our sins and made us righteous before God. Now the first thing you will say is, “Jesus died on a cross and not a tree” Yes the Apostle Peter is using the symbolism of a Tree to the cross. Why? Lets have the Apostle Paul give further explanation

Christ hath redeemed us from the curse of the law, being made a curse for us: for it is written, Cursed is every one that hangeth on a tree: Galatians 3:13

Here Paul is using the refernence of Tree to the cross also, why? Well because he is quoting the Torah (Deuteronomy 21:23) “Anyone who is cursed by God is hung on a Tree”. Think about that, Jesus the Son of God, became cursed to redeem us before the Father God.

For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God; Romans 3:23

The Bible clearly tells us we are all sinners. Because of this we are all under the curse of sin. But because Jesus paid our penalty on The Tree, we can be justified before God. However we need to repent and receive Jesus as our personal Lord and Savior.

Tomorrow were going to take a look how The Tree is also representative of The Church!
