Answer The Call

and so also were James and John, sons of Zebedee, who were partners with Simon. And Jesus said to Simon, “Do not fear, from now on you will be catching men.” Luke 5:10

Imagine if Jesus came up to you and said “Quit your job and start preaching the gospel” this is exactly what happened to Peter, James, and John. When we read this story, I don’t think we consider the magnitude of their decision. These guys were not just fishing for fun, these guys were professional fisherman. This was their career, this is how they supported their families, this is what they have probably been doing most of their lives.

Now their going to leave it all behind to serve the Master Jesus Christ, would you do the same? Are you willing to walk away from your career? Are you willing to have faith in Christ and step out into the unknown? The disciple’s devotion to Jesus was a lot more intense than I think we give them credit for.

Notice Jesus says “For Now On You will Be catching Men”, when Jesus asked them to leave their old lives behind he was expecting them to be drifters, they had work to do! They had a mission, to preach the gospel of Jesus Christ to as many people as possible!

When they had brought their boats to land, they left everything and followed Him. Luke 5:11

Notice their response, they left everything and followed Jesus! How will we or did we respond to Jesus call? Are we willing to leave the temporary things of this world behind to follow Christ? What is your mission focus while here on Earth? Is Jesus calling you today? Are you willing to answer the call?

What Is The Gospel?

THE SPIRIT OF THE LORD IS UPON ME, BECAUSE HE ANOINTED ME TO PREACH THE GOSPEL TO THE POOR. HE HAS SENT ME TO PROCLAIM RELEASE TO THE CAPTIVES, AND RECOVERY OF SIGHT TO THE BLIND, TO SET FREE THOSE WHO ARE OPPRESSED, TO PROCLAIM THE FAVORABLE YEAR OF THE LORD.” Luke 4:18-19

What is the Gospel? As Christians we are told to preach the gospel, but do you know or can you explain what the “gospel” even is? Jesus explains the gospel clearly right here, he is actually quoting the Prophet Isaiah. The word “gospel” in the Bible simply means “Good News”

The original Greek word for gospel is “Euaggelion” which means “good tidings” “proclamation of grace of God”  “reward for good tidings”

Notice the gospel message Jesus is proclaiming is that he is setting the captives Free!  Who is he setting Free and what is he setting them Free from?

For when you were slaves of sin, you were free in regard to righteousness. Romans 6:20

The Bible tells us we are all slaves to sin. That’s right unless Jesus has set you free, you are currently a slave to your sin. The Bible also tells us that we are dead in our sins (Ephesians 2:1) This is why we need a Savior, this is the heart of the gospel message. Without Christ there is no hope for your life

So if the Son makes you free, you will be free indeed. John 8:36

Jesus Christ has set us free from Sin and Death. Jesus went to the cross to die for your sins, but you must repent of your sin, and receive Jesus as your Lord and Savior. This is the gospel message, Jesus came to set the captives Free, we are the captives without Christ. But with Jesus there is freedom and eternal life! Amen!

Father Son and Holy Spirit

Now when all the people were baptized, Jesus was also baptized, and while He was praying, heaven was opened, and the Holy Spirit descended upon Him in bodily form like a dove, and a voice came out of heaven, “You are My beloved Son, in You I am well-pleased.” Luke 3:21-22

One of the glorious moments in the gospels is when the Father, Son , and Holy Spirit all came together as one to begin the redemption of humanity. Here we see when Jesus was getting baptized, the Son coming out of the water, The Holy Spirit coming down and anointing him, and the Father giving his blessing upon this union

So you might ask , why did Jesus need to be baptized? Well first you have to consider Jesus needed to become human to die for our sins. Even though Jesus was fully God he was also fully man, a hard concept for us to grasp. However God cant die, so Jesus needed to be made human to be the atonement for our sins

Since Jesus is human, hes also vulnerable to temptations. But he is filled and anointed with the Holy Spirit, so the power of God is living inside of him.

“Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, Matthew 28:19

Also Jesus would never ask us to do something he wouldn’t do. Jesus wouldn’t command us to get baptized if he wasn’t baptized either. Jesus was setting an example for us all, he never asked us to do anything that he hasn’t already done!

Notice Jesus says Baptize in the name of The Father, Son, and Holy Spirit! Our God is a Triune God Amen!

God Loves You

Unashamed of Jesus

For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the LORD, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end. Jeremiah 29:11

God loves you and has a plan for your life! I know sometimes this seems hard to believe but know what your Creator has to say about you and what he has done for you to give you eternal life!

For You formed my inward parts; You wove me in my mother’s womb. I will give thanks to You, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made; Wonderful are Your works, And my soul knows it very well. Psalm 139:13-14

You are not a mistake! God knew you before he formed you in your mother’s womb and had a plan for your life!  Don’t be led astray by this world, follow Jesus and find out what your Heavenly Fathers purpose for your life…

Baptized By Fire

John answered and said to them all, “As for me, I baptize you with water; but One is coming who is mightier than I, and I am not fit to untie the thong of His sandals; He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and fire. Luke 3:16

Wouldn’t it be great if all Christians had the same attitude and understanding as John the Baptist? He understood that his ministry was to glorify Jesus, he understood that his works cant even compare to The Lords. John understood he couldn’t give you anything compared to what Christ could give you!

Johns mission was not to build a mega church or sign a book deal, Johns mission was to get people to repent of their sins and receive Jesus as their Lord and Savior. So what did Jesus think of Johns ministry? He called him the greatest of all prophets (Matthew 11:11)

But notice once you receive Christ as your Lord and Savior, you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit. To become Born Again (John 3:3) you need the Holy Spirit , without the Breath of Life of the Spirit, your just Dry Bones, dead in your sins

His winnowing fork is in His hand to thoroughly clear His threshing floor, and to gather the wheat into His barn; but He will burn up the chaff with unquenchable fire.” Luke 3:17

Jesus is separating the Wheat from the chaff, notice the destination for the chaff, unquenchable fire. So much for the liberal theology that hell doesn’t exist. Have you received Jesus as your Lord and Savior yet? Have you been Born Again, baptized by the Holy Spirit?  Prepare the way for the Lord and receive him in your heart today Amen!

The Good News

But the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid; for behold, I bring you good news of great joy which will be for all the people; for today in the city of David there has been born for you a Savior, who is Christ the Lord. Luke 2:10-11

What is The Gospel? Gospel means “Good News”, so what is the Good News? As the Angel declared, the Good News is Jesus Christ has come to save us from our sins. There is no greater news than this, as God has become a man to take our place and die for our sins, so we may inherit eternal life.

We always hear people say , preach the gospel! So what does that mean to preach the gospel? It means to declare that Jesus Christ has come to deliver us from sin and death. Once you understand and accept this, we should be shouting it from the rooftops!

And suddenly there appeared with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God and saying, Glory to God in the highest, And on earth peace among men with whom He is pleased.” Luke 2:13-14

This is a moment when the Heavens declared and celebrated the Glory of God! Multitude of Angels singing for the birth of The Messiah. What do they know , that we don’t know? LOTS , we only see things from the earthly perspective, they see the eternal and they know the victory is ours through Jesus Christ! Amen!
