Matthew 17- Transfiguration Of Christ

And after six days Jesus taketh Peter, James, and John his brother, and bringeth them up into an high mountain apart, And was transfigured before them: and his face did shine as the sun, and his raiment was white as the light. And, behold, there appeared unto them Moses and Elias talking with him. Then answered Peter, and said unto Jesus, Lord, it is good for us to be here: if thou wilt, let us make here three tabernacles; one for thee, and one for Moses, and one for Elias. While he yet spake, behold, a bright cloud overshadowed them: and behold a voice out of the cloud, which said, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased; hear ye him. And when the disciples heard it, they fell on their face, and were sore afraid. And Jesus came and touched them, and said, Arise, and be not afraid. And when they had lifted up their eyes, they saw no man, save Jesus only. Matthew 17:1-8

Today we look at an event, where Jesus gives some of his disciples a revelation on the future of his glorification, but also demonstrates the New Covenant. When The Lord Jesus appeared to Peter, James, and John, his face shined like the sun. This is the same way , the Apostle John of Revelation described Christ, The Lord was showing them his future glorification after the cross and empty tomb

But also we see Moses and Elijah here on the mountain with Jesus. Now the first thought is these men are supposed to be dead, but they are alive and well in Heaven. Those people who support the concept of “soul sleep” would have a hard time explaining how Moses and Elijah are alive and standing with Jesus. But more importantly, it’s what these men represent. Moses represents The Law and Elijah represents The Prophets. As Jesus said “I did not come to abolish the Law and Prophets but to Fulfill “ (Matthew 5:17) This is a representation of the New Covenant of Christ.

And more importantly we hear the voice of God the Father affirming who Christ is “This is my beloved Son, whom I am well pleased, listen to him” The Father also affirmed Christ at his baptism. But it also reminds you of Mt. Sinai when Moses stood before God in the cloud and was delivered The Law. Now the Church is receiving the Living Word of God, Jesus Christ, the chief cornerstone

And as they came down from the mountain, Jesus charged them, saying, Tell the vision to no man, until the Son of man be risen again from the dead. And his disciples asked him, saying, Why then say the scribes that Elias must first come? And Jesus answered and said unto them, Elias truly shall first come, and restore all things. But I say unto you, That Elias is come already, and they knew him not, but have done unto him whatsoever they listed. Likewise shall also the Son of man suffer of them. Then the disciples understood that he spake unto them of John the Baptist. Matthew 17:9-13

Now notice Jesus didn’t want his disciples to tell anyone what they saw, until the Son of Man is glorified, why? Because Jesus wanted people to come to Christ in faith, we see this over and over again throughout his ministry. Then once Christ rose from the dead on the 3rd day, the gospel was and still is preached everywhere to everyone.

Another thing is the fulfillment of John the Baptist is revealed, it was prophesied the Elijah must come before the Messiah (Malachi 4:5-6) Christ reveals this was fulfilled by John the Baptist, the Messenger of The Lord

The Transfiguration of Christ, gives some disciples a future glimpse and revelation of who Jesus is, and about the New Covenant has come, Amen!

Luke 9- The Transfiguration

And it came to pass about an eight days after these sayings, he took Peter and John and James, and went up into a mountain to pray. And as he prayed, the fashion of his countenance was altered, and his raiment was white and glistering. And, behold, there talked with him two men, which were Moses and Elias: Who appeared in glory, and spake of his decease which he should accomplish at Jerusalem. Luke 9:28-31

The Transfiguration, one of the most mysterious events in the Bible, yet one that reveals so much about the past, present , and future. First we notice the scene is on a mountain. There is very similar to when Moses went up Mt Sinai to talk to God and received the Ten Commandments. Another fulfillment on how Jesus is the greater prophet of Moses, fortold by Moses himself (Deuteronomy 18:15)

Secondly we see Jesus come into his glory, being transformed into pure white. This is the same we see Jesus in Revelation Chapter 1 and Daniel 7. If you read Revelation 1 you can get the further description of how Jesus probably looked at this moment, eyes of blazing fire, his feet were like bronze, and his voice was like roaring waters. This must of be a terrifying moment for the disciples that were there

Third, we see Moses and Elijah there, now for those who believe in “Soul Sleep” how are Moses and Elijah there? They are still alive and well. I believe Moses represents The Law and Elijah represents The Prophets here. This is a revelation of the New Covenant through Christ, the Law and Prophets have been fulfilled through Jesus

But Peter and they that were with him were heavy with sleep: and when they were awake, they saw his glory, and the two men that stood with him. And it came to pass, as they departed from him, Peter said unto Jesus, Master, it is good for us to be here: and let us make three tabernacles; one for thee, and one for Moses, and one for Elias: not knowing what he said. While he thus spake, there came a cloud, and overshadowed them: and they feared as they entered into the cloud. And there came a voice out of the cloud, saying, This is my beloved Son: hear him. Luke 9:32-35

Then the voice of God The Father is heard from a cloud “This is my beloved Son, Listen to him” Imagine the terror of hearing God speak, this is looking more like Mt Sinai. As Peter asked Jesus “Is it good for us to be here”? Imagine as a sinful human standing in the presence of the Holy God, reminds you of Isaiah 6

And when the voice was past, Jesus was found alone. And they kept it close, and told no man in those days any of those things which they had seen. Luke 9:36

Jesus told them, “Don’t tell anyone what you have seen” why? Because remember up until this point, Jesus wasn’t revealed as the Messiah to most. We just heard Yahweh confirm Jesus is the Messiah, so that would have made it clear cut. But Jesus wanted people to come to him, and learn more about him, have a desire to know God.

The Transfiguration was a unique moment in history, that should be pondered. What would you have done if you were up on that mountain, face to face with the transfigured Lord, in the presence of Moses and Elijah, and hearing the voice of God? Pretty intense, but get ready, because Christ is coming again soon Amen!

Mark 9- The Transfiguration

And after six days Jesus taketh with him Peter, and James, and John, and leadeth them up into an high mountain apart by themselves: and he was transfigured before them. And his raiment became shining, exceeding white as snow; so as no fuller on earth can white them. And there appeared unto them Elias with Moses: and they were talking with Jesus. And Peter answered and said to Jesus, Master, it is good for us to be here: and let us make three tabernacles; one for thee, and one for Moses, and one for Elias. Mark 9:2-5

Today we take a look at the event of the Transfiguration of Christ, this event reveals many things to us. First we see Jesus transforming into his glorified state, he immediately turned white as snow, this is similar to when the Apostle John saw Jesus in Revelation also how Daniel saw Christ in Daniel 7. There should be no mistake to the Apostles that Jesus is the one who was prophesied by Daniel, Isaiah, Ezekiel, ect

Also we see Elijah and Moses standing with Jesus, for those who believe in soul sleep, how is this possible? Its obvious Elijah and Moses are alive and well, as we remember Elijah was actually raptured to Heaven. But also Elijah and Moses represent two important things here, Elijah represents the Prophets and Moses represents the Law

This is a revelation of the New Covenant, Jesus fulfilled the Law and the Prophets (Matthew 5:17) Having Elijah and Moses standing with him is obviously very significant

For he wist not what to say; for they were sore afraid. And there was a cloud that overshadowed them: and a voice came out of the cloud, saying, This is my beloved Son: hear him. And suddenly, when they had looked round about, they saw no man any more, save Jesus only with themselves. And as they came down from the mountain, he charged them that they should tell no man what things they had seen, till the Son of man were risen from the dead. Mark 9:6-9

Again we see our Heavenly Father confirming Jesus Christ the Son , “This is my beloved Son, listen to him” If you needed anymore confirmation that Jesus is the Christ or the New Covenant has come, I don’t know what to tell you. Notice the similarity between when Moses was on Mt Sinai when he received the Ten Commandments and this scene now

Jesus again prophecies about his death and resurrection, Christ does this over and over again throughout his ministry, yet the disciples never seemed to grasp it. Here again he says “Don’t tell anyone till the Son of Man has risen from the dead” Sounds pretty straight forward.

The transfiguration is just another glimpse into Gods Kingdom and a look at the Risen Christ who reigns forever and ever Amen!

The Transfiguration

And after six days Jesus taketh Peter, James, and John his brother, and bringeth them up into an high mountain apart, And was transfigured before them: and his face did shine as the sun, and his raiment was white as the light. Matthew 17:1-2

The transfiguration is one of the amazing events in the Bible not many people talk about. First lets notice the location of the transfiguration, throughout the Bible anytime there was a great event with God it usually happened on a mountain. And notice the company Jesus took with him. He didn’t bring just anyone, he brought a few from his inner circle who truly believed in Him

Jesus face shined like the Sun and his clothes were as very bright light, exactly the way he appears in Revelation. Jesus is revealing his true glory and deity even before his resurrection.

And, behold, there appeared unto them Moses and Elias talking with him. Matthew 17:3

Notice who appears with Jesus, Moses and Elijah. Now if there is no afterlife, if we don’t have a living soul, how are these guys standing with Jesus at this moment? Many false doctrines of Soul Sleep destroyed in a moment.

But what do these prophets represent? We know Moses represents The Law and Elijah represents The Prophets. Jesus is revealing the fulfillment of the Law and Prophets through Him (Matthew 5:17)

While he yet spake, behold, a bright cloud overshadowed them: and behold a voice out of the cloud, which said, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased; hear ye him. Matthew 17:5

The our Heavenly Father is heard announcing Jesus is the Son of God! His command was very clear “Listen To Him”! Anyone who rejects the Son is rejecting the Father!

And when the disciples heard it, they fell on their faces and were greatly afraid. And Jesus came and touched them, and said, Arise, and be not afraid. Matthew 17:6-7

What was the reaction of the disciples? They fell on their faces in fear! But Jesus told them “Get Up and Don’t be Afraid”! Because of Christ redeeming us for our sins, we can come in the presence of the Father without Fear.

And when they had lifted up their eyes, they saw no man, save Jesus only. And as they came down from the mountain, Jesus charged them, saying, Tell the vision to no man, until the Son of man be risen again from the dead Matthew 17:8-9

When the disciples finally had the courage to life their heads, who did they see? Only Jesus! Keep your eyes fixed on our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ! Notice this was a prophetic revelation Jesus was sharing with these men.

Not only was Jesus revealing his Deity but also prophesying about his resurrection! This is the Beloved Son of God, Listen To Him! Amen!
