1 Corinthians 7- Get Married

Now concerning the things whereof ye wrote unto me: It is good for a man not to touch a woman. Nevertheless, to avoid fornication, let every man have his own wife, and let every woman have her own husband. Let the husband render unto the wife due benevolence: and likewise also the wife unto the husband. The wife hath not power of her own body, but the husband: and likewise also the husband hath not power of his own body, but the wife. 1 Corinthians 7:1-4

As you read through the Epistles of Corinthians, it becomes very clear, the Church of Corinth had alot of sexual immorality issues. The Apostle Paul spends a great deal of time working through alot of their issues, and teachings on sanctification and avoiding immorality of the body. So Paul injects another idea into the Church to avoid fornication, get married!

It’s very clear from the beginning of the Bible, Marriage was Gods plan for humanity. In Adam it was revealed “it is not good for man to be alone” (Genesis 2:18) People were designed to have a companion, being a lone wolf is a difficult lifestyle, this is another reason God designed the Church, to be a spiritual family for one another

The Bible also makes it clear, any sex outside the covenant of marriage is immoral (Hebrews 13:4) and Jesus defined the covenant of marriage between One man and One woman (Matthew 19:4-5) So what’s a solution to sexual immorality, get married!

Think about all the issues the Church has had with sexual abuse, including Catholic priests, could alot of this been prevented if these guys would have just got married? Probably, if you read the Word of God instead of relying on the traditions of men, it will keep you on the narrow path of life

Defraud ye not one the other, except it be with consent for a time, that ye may give yourselves to fasting and prayer; and come together again, that Satan tempt you not for your incontinency. But I speak this by permission, and not of commandment. For I would that all men were even as I myself. But every man hath his proper gift of God, one after this manner, and another after that. 1 Corinthians 7:5-7

Now is this the solution to everyone’s immorality issues? No, of course not, we need to become Born Again first to have a Holy marriage to begin with. Marriage is a covenant from God that can resolve alot of problems if the covenant is not broken. However its not the end all, be all for everyone. I think there is alot of wisdom in this teaching when applied correctly

As Paul says here “That Satan doesnt tempt you” When your alone and vulnerable, its much easier for you to fall into temptation. Not just the sexual aspect, but also having a partner to walk side by side with you, as the two become one flesh. Apply these teachings in a practical aspect, and it will benefit you on your long journey with Christ, Amen!
