Living Water

The Samaritan woman said to him, “You are a Jew and I am a Samaritan woman. How can you ask me for a drink?” (For Jews do not associate with Samaritans.) Jesus answered her, “If you knew the gift of God and who it is that asks you for a drink, you would have asked him and he would have given you living water.” John 4:9-10

The story of the Samaritan woman reveals a lot about God and The New Covenant. First Jesus breaks down racial barriers as Jews didn’t associate with Samaritans, then he broke down gender barriers as men usually didn’t preach to woman.

He takes the opportunity of getting a drink a water to reveal he is the living water, are only hope for eternal life.

“Sir,” the woman said, “I can see that you are a prophet. Our ancestors worshiped on this mountain, but you Jews claim that the place where we must worship is in Jerusalem.” “Woman,” Jesus replied, “believe me, a time is coming when you will worship the Father neither on this mountain nor in Jerusalem. You Samaritans worship what you do not know; we worship what we do know, for salvation is from the Jews. John 4:19-22

Jesus revealed you didn’t have to be in a temple or church to worship God, we are the temple of God, we are the church. God is everywhere, we can worship him anywhere.

The last scripture he reveals “Salvation is from the Jews”, Jesus is teaching us the Jews are still Gods people, they are still Biblically relevant even though the Christian world wants to forget about them.

Yet a time is coming and has now come when the true worshipers will worship the Father in the Spirit and in truth, for they are the kind of worshipers the Father seeks. God is spirit, and his worshipers must worship in the Spirit and in truth.” John 4:23-24

Next Jesus is revealing the Holy Spirit, teaching her God is spirit and true Christians must worship in the Spirit (Holy Spirit) and Truth (Jesus)

The woman said, “I know that Messiah” (called Christ) “is coming. When he comes, he will explain everything to us.” Then Jesus declared, “I, the one speaking to you–I am he.” John 4:25-26

The Samaritan Woman had the scriptural knowledge to know there is a Messiah coming, Jesus reveals he is the Messiah, he is the Son of God, he is the Living Water, that we will thirst no more in Jesus Name Amen
