2 Thessalonians 3- Mission of The Church

Finally, brethren, pray for us, that the word of the Lord may have free course, and be glorified, even as it is with you: And that we may be delivered from unreasonable and wicked men: for all men have not faith. But the Lord is faithful, who shall stablish you, and keep you from evil. And we have confidence in the Lord touching you, that ye both do and will do the things which we command you. And the Lord direct your hearts into the love of God, and into the patient waiting for Christ. 2 Thessalonians 3:1-5

What was the main goal of the Church here? Paul says “Pray for us, that the word of The Lord may have free course or spread quickly” The Church was sharing the gospel of Jesus Christ, this was the command giving us by our Lord Jesus Christ, the Great Commision (Matthew 28:19) This should be the mission statement for every Church, the gospel needs to be spread by whatever means possible

Sounds like an easy job, right? Wrong, anytime you share the gospel, heavy opposition usually follows. Paul says “That we may be delivered from unreasonable and wicked men” doesn’t that sound like today’s society also? Wicked and unreasonable, these are the type of people usually you face when trying to share the gospel of Jesus Christ. However it’s our calling and duty

But even though it’s a struggle, we always have hope because as Paul says “The Lord is faithful, who shall establish you and keep you from evil” God will never leave or forsake us, Jesus is faithful. Whatever Christ promised us, we can count it as a guarantee, we never have to wonder and hope that God will save us, it is already finished! We may not always understand the plan or the path, but we should know God will always use things for our good and his glory (Romans 8:28)

So how do we know what to do as the Church? Paul says “May The Lord directs your hearts”, follow the will of God being filled and sanctified by the Holy Spirit. Whatever you are doing for your Church or your daily life, ask “Is Jesus Christ leading my heart”? Again what is the mission of the Church? Doing the will of God, being led by the Holy Spirit, having Jesus Christ lead your heart to fulfill the Great Commision, Amen!

Matthew 28- The Great Commission

Then the eleven disciples went away into Galilee, into a mountain where Jesus had appointed them. And when they saw him, they worshipped him: but some doubted. And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth. Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen.  Matthew 28:16-20

If the Church was to have a mission statement, it would be The Great Commision, “Preach the gospel to all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit”

Jesus made it very clear to us that evangelism should be our top job and priority as Christians. However with so many Churches, why don’t we see anyone evangelizing on the street corners of every town and city? Why is it that most Christians have never shared the gospel with anyone and most are even afraid to mention their faith in public? Well it starts from the top down, if you are a Christian , then Jesus is your Lord, then you should be obeying the commandments of Christ!

The reality is most people who identify themselves as Christians, are just “Sunday morning Christians” they show up for a Church service, do their thing, and forget about God the rest of the week. This is why Jesus said “Unless you are Born Again, you will not enter the Kingdom of Heaven” (John 3:3) most of these people are false converts, they never became Born Again, they never had a change of heart (Ezekiel 36) they are not filled with the Holy Spirit, they don’t read the Word of God daily, they have no prayer life. They are the dry bones in the valley of death

Jesus said “If you love me, you will keep my commandments” (John 14:15) If you truly are a Christian, then you should love Jesus with all your heart, mind, soul, and strength. If you don’t then your not Born Again, your religion is useless. There has to be a transformation within yourself when you met Christ, there has to be fruits produced by the Holy Spirit (Matthew 7, Galatians 5) Jesus said “You will be know by your fruit” (Matthew 7:16)

As the BIble says “How can they hear without a preacher” (Romans 10:14) How will anyone know the good news of Jesus Christ, unless someone tells them? This is where the Church comes in, this is where you come in! The Great Commision, share the good news of Jesus Christ with everyone! Everyone who is Born Again is qualified to be a preacher, just share the gospel, Christ died, Christ is Risen, Christ will come again!

Who do we share this good news with? Everyone! We must remember , only God can save people , we can’t . Our job is to plant the seed (Word of God) it’s the Holy Spirit’s job to convict and lead them to Christ. So be a “spiritual farmer” sow the seed of the gospel to everyone, and on fertile soil, it will become abundant. Not all soil will be good, not everyone will receive the gospel, but it’s not our job to determine who will receive or deny it. Just preach the gospel of Jesus Christ! Amen!

Luke 21- The Great Commission

Then said he unto them, Nation shall rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom: And great earthquakes shall be in divers places, and famines, and pestilences; and fearful sights and great signs shall there be from heaven. But before all these, they shall lay their hands on you, and persecute you, delivering you up to the synagogues, and into prisons, being brought before kings and rulers for my name’s sake. And it shall turn to you for a testimony. Settle it therefore in your hearts, not to meditate before what ye shall answer: For I will give you a mouth and wisdom, which all your adversaries shall not be able to gainsay nor resist. Luke 21:10-15

So you think it’s going to be easy being a Christian? Jesus was revealing to his disciples what to expect in the very near future. That a great persecution is going to happen to the Church, they will be put in prison and even killed for the name of Jesus. And we seen this fulfilled by all the Apostles, and it’s still happening today as Christians are being killed on a daily basis for their faith.

Often people believe Christianity is an easy way into Heaven, however as Jesus taught its totally the opposite. As Jesus said “If anyone wants to be my disciple, they must deny themselves and carry their cross daily” (Luke 9:23) Jesus was preparing us for the long road ahead, this is a spiritual warfare you are involved with in this world, however have peace because Jesus has already overcome the world! (Ephesians 6, John 16:33)

Notice what Jesus says here “You are a testimony for God” Any suffering or persecution you may encounter is to bring Glory to God, to show others the victory of your faith in Christ. Also Jesus said “Don’t worry about what you are going to say , I will give you wisdom which nobody can refute” Often we are afraid to witness to non believers or stand up for our faith, but Jesus assures you He will give you wisdom and understanding beyond human comprehension

And ye shall be betrayed both by parents, and brethren, and kinsfolks, and friends; and some of you shall they cause to be put to death. And ye shall be hated of all men for my name’s sake. But there shall not an hair of your head perish. In your patience possess ye your souls. Luke 21:16-19

One of the great failures of the Church today is trying to get the world to love and accept them. Jesus said “You will be hated by everyone because of Jesus” , so why is the Church trying to get everyone to like them? Often the Church comprises itself with sin to be acceptable in the world, but we are not to conform to the ways of the world but be transformed by the renewing of our minds (Romans 12:2)

Before Jesus ascended he gave us The Great Commision “Make disciples of all the nations and baptize them in the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit” (Matthew 28:19) We are to go out into the world and tell everyone the “good news” about Jesus Christ, this is your job as a Christian. And when you evangelize, you’re probably going to run into opposition, because the world hates the real Jesus! But Christ gave us the affirmation to stay strong and preach his words because you are already victorious by the blood , the water, and the Spirit of God

Until Christ returns , its not going to be an easy ride, there’s going to be persecution, there’s going to be trials and tribulations, take Heart because Jesus has already overcome the world, Amen

Mark 16- The Great Commission

Afterward he appeared unto the eleven as they sat at meat, and upbraided them with their unbelief and hardness of heart, because they believed not them which had seen him after he was risen. And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature. He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned. Mark 16:14-16

Before Jesus ascended back to Heaven, he gave his disciples their marching orders known as “The Great Commision” These orders were not just for the Apostles but for us also, we also need to be obedient to Christ and follow his commands.

Go into all the world and preach the gospel to everyone! Sounds like a simple command, but how many Christians are actually doing this? We see many Christians dividing themselves and some even hiding from the world, when we should be going out into the world and talking about Jesus! It’s easier to avoid people who don’t have the same beliefs and worldview as you, but how will they know the gospel unless its heard by You!

You might say, what’s the big deal? Well notice Christ’s words, “They that don’t believe will be damned” Your service is vital to someone’s eternal salvation, if the seed of the gospel is never planted, they may never receive Christ!

And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues; They shall take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them; they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover.  Mark 16:17-18

You might say “Well I feel powerless or unequipped to go out and preach” This is not true, as a Born Again believer, you are filled with the Holy Spirit. The same spirit that rose Jesus Christ from the dead, is living inside of you! In the name of Christ, the Apostles cast our demons, healed the sick, and spoke in tongues, how? Because they were filled with the Holy Spirit as promised by Jesus Christ

Notice in the very beginning in verse 14, Jesus rebuked his disciples for their lack of faith and belief. Is your heart right with God or is it hardened? Take the leap of faith and Go preach the gospel to the entire world, baptize them in the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit Amen!
