New World Translation says Jehovah Appeared As A Man?

Recently I had a conversation with a JW and walked them through Genesis Chapter 18 and 19 using their NWT Bible. They were perplexed to find out their translation says Jehovah appeared as a man to Abraham with 2 angels. Of course they had no explanation for this, but we know this was Jesus Christ, God in the flesh. This is a great conversation starter to have with a JW to share the gospel

Afterward, Jehovaha appeared to him among the big trees of Mamʹreb while he was sitting at the entrance of the tent during the hottest part of the day. 2  He looked up and saw three men standing some distance from him.c When he saw them, he ran from the entrance of the tent to meet them, and he bowed down to the ground. 3  Then he said: “Jehovah, if I have found favor in your eyes, please do not pass by your servant. Genesis 18:1-3

  1. Jehovah appeared to Abraham
  2. NWT describes Jehovah as 3 men
  3. Abraham ran to them and bowed down (worshiped)
  4. Abraham addressed the man as Jehovah

He then took butter and milk and the young bull that he had prepared and set the food before them. Then he stood by them under the tree as they were eating Genesis 18:8

Verse 8 continues to say the men were eating, if this is Jehovah how is he eating like a human?

Then Jehovah said to Abraham: “Why did Sarah laugh and say, ‘Am I really going to give birth even though I am old?’ 14  Is anything too extraordinary for Jehovah? Genesis 18:13-14

The scripture clearly says “Jehovah said to Abraham” it was Jehovah who identified himself talking to Sarah

20  Then Jehovah said: “The outcry against Sodʹom and Go·morʹrah is indeed great,p and their sin is very heavy.q 21  I will go down to see whether they are acting according to the outcry that has reached me. And if not, I can get to know it.”r Genesis 18:20-21

Again notice Jehovah said “I will go down to Sodom and Gomorrah”

The two angels arrived at Sodʹom by evening, and Lot was sitting in the gate of Sodʹom. When Lot saw them, he got up to meet them and bowed down with his face to the earth.a Genesis 19:1

In the next Chapter it says the 2 angels met Lot, how many men met Abraham? It was 3, so the third man is missing, he is not identified as an angel like the other 2.

27  Now Abraham got up early in the morning and went to the place where he had stood before Jehovah. Genesis 19:27

New World Translation confirms that Abraham stood before Jehovah, which was Jesus Christ, the Son of God in human form. If a JW denies this they have to deny thier own Bible translation

Who Raised Jesus From the Dead- According to the New World Translation?

A great conversation starter to talk to JW’s is “Who Raised Jesus from the dead?”

30  But God raised him up from the dead, Acts 13:30 (NWT)

The New Word Translation confirms God raised Jesus from the dead, now ask them to look at the next scriptures in their Bible

19  Jesus replied to them: “Tear down this temple, and in three days I will raise it up.”l 20  The Jews then said: “This temple was built in 46 years, and will you raise it up in three days?” 21  But he was talking about the temple of his body.m 22  When, though, he was raised up from the dead, his disciples recalled that he used to say this,n and they believed the scripture and what Jesus had spoken. John 2:19-22 (NWT)

The NWT clearly documents that Jesus said he would raise himself from the dead, when I discussed this with JW’s they understood Jesus was declaring himself to be God. If they truly are honest and believe their scriptures, Jesus declares he is God in their own Bible

Now the question about the Trinity will come up and this is where the conversation will probably go off the rails, try to keep them on the path, lets look at the next scripture in their Bible

11  If, now, the spirit of him who raised up Jesus from the dead dwells in you, the one who raised up Christ Jesus from the deadp will also make your mortal bodies aliveq through his spirit that resides in you. Romans 8:11 (NWT)

Ask them who is this scripture talking about “Spirit of Him (Jehovah)” this is clearly talking about the Holy Spirit. In their Bible it states “The Holy Spirit raised Jesus from the dead” So from their Bible we can clearly see, Jehovah the Father, Jesus the Son, and the Holy Spirit raised Christ from the dead

19  Go, therefore, and make disciples of people of all the nations,o baptizing themp in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the holy spirit, Matthew 28:19 (NWT)

You can end with the “Great Commision” giving by Christ, why did Jesus feel the need to mention Father, Son, and Holy Spirit? It should aleast plant a seed for the Holy Spirit if they truly care about the truth of God

Who Is The First and The Last?

Who is the First and the Last? If you ask a Jehovah Witness they will quickly say Jehovah, and based on the scriptures below I would agree with them. However when we analyze what Jesus also said, it makes it clear that Jesus is God also

Who hath wrought and done it, calling the generations from the beginning? I the LORD, the first, and with the last; I am he. Isaiah 41:4 (KJV)

Who has acted and done this,Summoning the generations from the beginning?I, Jehovah, am the First One;dAnd with the last ones I am the same.”e  Isaiah 41:4 (NWT)

Both translations are clear that Jehovah is the First and the Last and He is the only God. However lets compare these words with the words of Jesus Christ

Thus saith the LORD the King of Israel, and his redeemer the LORD of hosts; I am the first, and I am the last; and beside me there is no God. Isaiah 44:6 (KJV)

This is what Jehovah says,The King of Israeli and his Repurchaser,j Jehovah of armies:‘I am the first and I am the last.kThere is no God but me.l Isaiah 44:6 (NWT)

First thing focus on verse 7 , Jesus clearly identifies himself as the one who was pierced. Then the following verse 8, Jesus identifies himself as the Alpha (First) and Omega (Last), who is, who was, who is to come (Eternal)

Doesn’t this sound the same as what Jehovah declared himself as. The First and the Last!

Notice in verse 8 they injected Jehovah into this verse, when the original Greek word is Kyrios. Everyone knows the Greek word Kyrios doesn’t translate to Jehovah, it translates directly to Lord. This is either a very poor translation or deliberate insertion.

Behold, he cometh with clouds; and every eye shall see him, and they also which pierced him: and all kindreds of the earth shall wail because of him. Even so, Amen. I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the ending, saith the Lord, which is, and which was, and which is to come, the Almighty. Revelation 1:7-8 (KJV)

Look! He is coming with the clouds,o and every eye will see him, and those who pierced him; and all the tribes of the earth will beat themselves in grief because of him.p Yes, Amen. “I am the Alʹpha and the O·meʹga,”*q says

Jehovah* God, “the One who is and who was and who is coming, the Almighty.”r Revelation 1:7-8 (NWT)

Here Jesus references himself as the First and the Last, again an exact statement said by Jehovah in the Old Testament. Who else could declare themselves the First and the Last? Could any angel or prophet ever declare themselves the First and the Last? This is a direct revelation of Christs Deity

And he said unto me, It is done. I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end. I will give unto him that is athirst of the fountain of the water of life freely. Revelation 21:6 (KJV)

6  And he said to me: “They have come to pass! I am the Alʹpha and the O·meʹga,* the beginning and the end.l To anyone thirsting I will give from the spring* of the water of life free.*m Revelation 21:6 (NWT)

Now maybe your saying “Those scriptures were all a fluke” , ok lets take a look at another statement Jesus made that makes it clear. In verse 12 we see Jesus clearly identifies himself as the speaker. Then in verse 13 he makes the exact same statement as Jehovah. How can Jesus make these statements unless he is God?

And, behold, I come quickly; and my reward is with me, to give every man according as his work shall be. I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end, the first and the last. Revelation 22:12-13 (KJV)

12  “‘Look! I am coming quickly, and the reward I give is with me, to repay each one according to his work.o 13  I am the Alʹpha and the O·meʹga,*p the first and the last, the beginning and the end. Revelation 22:12-13 (NWT)
