On A Tree

“If a man has committed a sin worthy of death and he is put to death, and you hang him on a tree, Deuteronomy 21:22

Why did Jesus have to die on a cross? This is probably the first question that comes to mind when you first discover Jesus. To understand this, you first need to understand Sin and its consequences. Under the Moral Law of God, the wages of sin is death.

The penalty to be hung on a tree was fulfilled when Christ was crucified to the cross. Jesus took your place on that tree!

for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, being justified as a gift by His grace through the redemption which is in Christ Jesus; Romans 3:23-24

We are all guilty of Sin, breaking Gods Moral Law, and the penalty for that Sin is death. However because God is full of Love and Mercy, Jesus took our place and became our atoning sacrifice for our Sins. Because of his atonement, we are justified before God, this gift from God is called Grace

But when the fullness of the time came, God sent forth His Son, born of a woman, born under the Law, so that He might redeem those who were under the Law, that we might receive the adoption as sons. Galatians 4:4-5

Jesus became Flesh, born of Mary, born Under The Law. Even though Jesus committed no sin, he bore the penalty for our sins. In order for Jesus to Fulfill The Law (Matthew 5:17) he has to be Under The Law. Because Christ defeated Sin and death and rose after 3 days, we can now be Children of God Amen!

Who his own self bare our sins in his own body on the tree, that we, being dead to sins, should live unto righteousness: by whose stripes ye were healed. 1 Peter 2:24 (KJV)

Lack Nothing

“For the LORD your God has blessed you in all that you have done; He has known your wanderings through this great wilderness. These forty years the LORD your God has been with you; you have not lacked a thing.”‘ Deuteronomy 2:7

Think about this…The Israelites wandered through the wilderness for 40 years , many times they told Moses they wanted to turn around and return to slavery in Egypt. There were times when they felt like they were being left for dead in the desert, however the whole time God was with them!

When they were hungry, God sent them Manna from Heaven. When they became thirsty , God split the rock open and provided them endless streams of water. God even had them setup a tabernacle, and he lived with them in the desert.

Even though they felt they were left for dead, God was always with them and they never lacked a thing! Think about that

The LORD is my shepherd, I lack nothing. Psalm 23:1 (NIV)

Some English translations of Psalm 23 says I lack Nothing! Some say I shall not want, both translations are correct as the original Hebrew word is (eh-sar) to need or to lack.

Meaning if Jesus is truly our Great Shepherd we don’t need anything, because God provides for his sheep. The same as God provided for the Israelites throughout the Wilderness , he will provide for you, you shall lack nothing!

Some might say, but I really need this and that, do you really need it? Or is it just your human pride desiring it? God provides what you need, you will lack nothing , Amen!

Greater Prophet

The LORD your God will raise up for you a prophet like me from among you, from your countrymen, you shall listen to him. Deuteronomy 18:15

While reading this from a Christian perspective, this may not seem like a big statement by Moses. However lets remember who Moses was at this time. Moses at this time was the greatest prophet that lived. He talked to God face to face on Mt Sinai, He parted the Red Sea with God and marched the Israelites to safety. With God, Moses brought the deadly plagues to Egypt to show Pharaoh that Yahweh was the One True God

Up till this time, nobody has ever seen anyone like Moses, but Moses now said somebody even greater than him is coming. How can someone be even greater than Moses, a man who talked to God personally as a friend? Because Jesus is the Son of God, the Word in living Flesh!

As Moses predicted the Messiah (Christ) would come from Israel, as Jesus did. And he performed greater miracles than Moses, The Great I AM has come into the flesh!

Some might say well Moses was referring to Joshua. Well Peter confirms by the Holy Spirit, that Moses was referring to Jesus Christ. Peter reveals to them they killed their own Messiah but God raised him from the dead (Acts 3:15)

Everyone who does not listen to Him (Jesus) will be completely cut off from among HIS people (Acts 3:23)  Jesus is the only way to salvation, rejection of him is rejection of eternal life!
