John 8- The Great I AM

Then answered the Jews, and said unto him, Say we not well that thou art a Samaritan, and hast a devil? Jesus answered, I have not a devil; but I honour my Father, and ye do dishonour me. And I seek not mine own glory: there is one that seeketh and judgeth. Verily, verily, I say unto you, If a man keep my saying, he shall never see death. John 8:48-51

Imagine meeting the Son of God face to face and insulting him with false accusations such as “He is a demon” or “Your not even Jewish your a Samaritan” Sometimes our theological pride can get in the way of our hearts. We see this alot in Christianity today also. We believe we know everything there is to know, sometimes we need to just shut up and listen

The religious leaders didnt understand that by condemning Christ, they are also condemning Yahweh. If you reject the Son , you also reject the Father. If the religious leaders were as smart as they believed, they would have recognized that Jesus is the Messiah. Jesus made it clear, through Him you will never see death!

Then said the Jews unto him, Now we know that thou hast a devil. Abraham is dead, and the prophets; and thou sayest, If a man keep my saying, he shall never taste of death. Art thou greater than our father Abraham, which is dead? and the prophets are dead: whom makest thou thyself? John 8:52-53

Again the religious leaders are showing their theological ignorance. They didnt understand Jesus statement “You shall never see death” therefor they rejected it as heresy. The problem was them, they didnt understand Jesus was referencing the soul and not the physical body

Are you greater than Abraham, they asked Jesus? The religious leaders are placing Abraham on a pedestal , however they dont understand the Lord of Lords is standing right in front of them!

Jesus answered, If I honour myself, my honour is nothing: it is my Father that honoureth me; of whom ye say, that he is your God: Yet ye have not known him; but I know him: and if I should say, I know him not, I shall be a liar like unto you: but I know him, and keep his saying. Your father Abraham rejoiced to see my day: and he saw it, and was glad. John 8:54-56

Again Jesus is trying to teach these men a theological lesson. Abraham would have rejoiced at the day to see the Messiah, but these religious leaders condemn the Messiah. They claim to be disciples of Abraham, but are far from his ways

Then said the Jews unto him, Thou art not yet fifty years old, and hast thou seen Abraham? Jesus said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Before Abraham was, I am Then took they up stones to cast at him: but Jesus hid himself, and went out of the temple, going through the midst of them, and so passed by. John 8:57-59

Jesus here makes one of his 7 I AM statements, before Abraham was I AM. The Jews knew exactly what Jesus was saying here, as they picked up stones to kill him. Jesus was declaring He is The Great I AM!

Anyone who says “Jesus never declared to be God” doesn’t know the scriptures. Here again is another classic example of Jesus deity, don’t be like the religious leaders and harden your heart, receive the Lord and never see death Amen!

John 8- Truth Shall Set You Free

As he spake these words, many believed on him. Then said Jesus to those Jews which believed on him, If ye continue in my word, then are ye my disciples indeed; And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free. John 8:30-32

Everyone wants to be free! Free from pain, free from suffering, and most importantly free from death. Jesus is the only one who can set us free, that is why he is called The Way. People try to find all kinds of escapes to make them free, they might try drugs, alcohol, sex,  ect however all these things just make you more imprisoned to yourself

Jesus was teaching we are slaves to our sins. Many people who believe they are free are actually trapped by their addiction or obsession. Only Christ can set you free, why? Because He is the only one who can pay the debt for your sins

They answered him, We be Abraham’s seed, and were never in bondage to any man: how sayest thou, Ye shall be made free? Jesus answered them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Whosoever committeth sin is the servant of sin. And the servant abideth not in the house for ever: but the Son abideth ever. John 8:33-35

The religious leaders didnt understand this concept, they stated “ We are descendants of Abraham, we are slaves to nobody” Now obviously they were referencing their ethnicity of being Jewish, but Jesus was talking about something much deeper than this

Jesus said “Whoever sins is a slave to sin” Well since we all have sinned, we are all slaves to sin. However Christ can set you free! Jesus paid the debt for your sin on the cross, so you can be set free from your bondage.

If the Son therefore shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed. John 8:36

I wanted to end with this scripture because its so powerful and beautiful, you might not understand why Jesus went to the cross. But once you understand the seriousness of your sin, you understand the love He demonstrated to you on that cross

Jesus can set you free, nobody or nothing else can! Only the Son of God can deliver you from your sin, my chains are gone , I’ve been set free Amen!

Merry Christmas

For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. Isaiah 9:6

  • A child is born “ Luke 2:10 Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; he is the Messiah, the Lord.”
  • A Son is given “ John 3:16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.”
  • Governments will be on his shoulders “Revelations 19:16 “On his robe and on his thigh he has this name written: king of kings and lord of lords.”
  • Wonderful Counselor “ John 14:16 “Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.”
  • Mighty God- John 1:1 “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.”
  • Everlasting Father Revelation 22:13 “I am the Alpha and the Omega, the First and the Last, the Beginning and the End.”
  • Prince of Peace John 14:27 Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.”

This Christmas take the time to connect with your Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Reflect on all he has given you and your family already and bless his holy name.

From me and my family we wish you all a Merry CHRISTmas and God bless!

John 8- Drop The Stones

And the scribes and Pharisees brought unto him a woman taken in adultery; and when they had set her in the midst, They say unto him, Master, this woman was taken in adultery, in the very act. Now Moses in the law commanded us, that such should be stoned: but what sayest thou? John 8:3-5

Here again we see the religious leaders trying to trap Jesus , they brought a woman who was caught committing adultery and wanted to see how Jesus would respond based on the Torah. Now the interesting thing is the man that committed adultery was nowhere to be found, so this was not a fair trial right from the beginning

The religious leaders wanted to see if Jesus would stone the woman to death, they were testing Jesus to see if they can get him to contradict the Torah

This they said, tempting him, that they might have to accuse him. But Jesus stooped down, and with his finger wrote on the ground, as though he heard them not. So when they continued asking him, he lifted up himself, and said unto them, He that is without sin among you, let him first cast a stone at her.And again he stooped down, and wrote on the ground. John 8:6-8

Jesus began writing something in the sand, were not exactly sure what he wrote but it convicted the religious leaders of their own sin. Perhaps Jesus was exposing their own sin to the group, perhaps he was writing the laws of God. However he challenged them “Whoever has never sinned to cast the first stone”

Now the interesting thing is Jesus did never sin, so he was justified to cast the stone at the woman, but he choose mercy instead

And they which heard it, being convicted by their own conscience, went out one by one, beginning at the eldest, even unto the last: and Jesus was left alone, and the woman standing in the midst. When Jesus had lifted up himself, and saw none but the woman, he said unto her, Woman, where are those thine accusers? hath no man condemned thee? John 8:9-10

The religious leaders were all convicted of their own sins and dropped the stones and walked away. Nobody was worthy to convict this woman of sin because they were all sinners themselves! Then Jesus addressed the woman, “Where have all your accusers gone”?

She said, No man, Lord. And Jesus said unto her, Neither do I condemn thee: go, and sin no more John 8:11

Jesus is the only one who could righteously condemn the woman of her sin, and he decided to give her mercy instead. Now before you get angry about Jesus leaving the woman go, remember you are this woman also! We have all fallen short and are all sinners, Christ has shown us the same mercy

But notice Jesus gave her a commandment, stop sinning! Sin No More, Jesus gives us mercy, however we need to repent and become Born Again also. By the mercy of Christ, this woman would be changed forever, the same as us when we encounter Jesus , Amen!

John 7- The Living Water

In the last day, that great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried, saying, If any man thirst, let him come unto me, and drink. He that believeth on me, as the scripture hath said, out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water. (But this spake he of the Spirit, which they that believe on him should receive: for the Holy Ghost was not yet given; because that Jesus was not yet glorified.) John 7:37-39

We remember a few chapters ago, Jesus revealed to the Samaritan woman that if she drank from the water he was offering, she would never thirst again. Of course Jesus was referencing the Living Water, and the Samaritan Woman was receptive to receiving this. Here Jesus goes into further teaching about the Living Water

The scripture reveals here that the Living Water that Jesus is referring to is the Holy Spirit. Without the Holy Spirit we can’t be saved, we can’t be reborn from a dead sinful state. But notice at this point the Holy Spirit was not yet give because Christ was not yet glorified

Many of the people therefore, when they heard this saying, said, Of a truth this is the Prophet. Others said, This is the Christ. But some said, Shall Christ come out of Galilee? Hath not the scripture said, That Christ cometh of the seed of David, and out of the town of Bethlehem, where David was? John 7:40-42

A great debate then started among the people, is this guy Jesus the Messiah? If he is the Messiah , isn’t this guy from Nazareth? These people didn’t realize Jesus was actually born in Bethlehem, maybe Christmas knowledge is important after all? These people didnt have the further revelation that we have today, however they were starting to realize, something was special about Jesus

So there was a division among the people because of him. And some of them would have taken him; but no man laid hands on him. Then came the officers to the chief priests and Pharisees; and they said unto them, Why have ye not brought him? The officers answered, Never man spake like this man. John 7:43-46

The presence of Jesus was causing great division among the people, some were starting to believe him while others just wanted to kill him. The Romans wanted the religious leaders to get rid of him, while the religious leaders wanted the Romans to get rid of him. Everyones heart was stirred because God in the flesh was standing among them. The officers answered “Noone has ever spoken like this man” because Jesus spoke the words of God, the way, the truth , and the life

Nicodemus saith unto them, (he that came to Jesus by night, being one of them,) Doth our law judge any man, before it hear him, and know what he doeth? They answered and said unto him, Art thou also of Galilee? Search, and look: for out of Galilee ariseth no prophet. John 7:50-52

Then we see Nicodemus from Chapter 3 show up on the scene again “ Does the Torah condemn someone before hearing them” , Nicodemus knows that you need 2 or 3 witnesses according to the Torah to convict someone. Now the question arises, did Nicodemus become Born Again and convert to Christianity? Or was Nicodemus still searching?

The religious leaders came back with a response , but was also inaccurate. They said “No prophet has come from Galilee”, well this is actually an incorrect statement. Jonah, Nahum, Hosea, Elijah, and Elisha were all well known prophets from Galilee. So this statement by the Pharisees was wrong, they clearly didnt know the scriptures as well as they thought

Just as God provided the water in the wilderness to the Israleites, Jesus is providing the Holy Spirit, to all who thirst for God Amen!
