Man of Sorrows

For he shall grow up before him as a tender plant, and as a root out of a dry ground: he hath no form nor comeliness; and when we shall see him, there is no beauty that we should desire him Isaiah 53:2

Jesus, the Son of God, sent to Earth born of a virgin, born to be the Son of Man just like us. A carpenter’s son that nobody ever looked at twice, a faithful servant for all mankind.

He is despised and rejected of men; a man of sorrows, and acquainted with grief: and we hid as it were our faces from him; he was despised, and we esteemed him not. Isaiah 53:3

Even though he was the Messiah everyone had waited for, they rejected him because they didn’t want to repent from their sins. Man loved their religion more than they loved God, therefor they decided to murder his only begotten Son who was sent to be there Savior.

Surely he hath borne our griefs, and carried our sorrows: yet we did esteem him stricken, smitten of God, and afflicted. Isaiah 53:4

Even though Jesus was sinless and holy, he took the suffering for our sins. He took the punishment for our transgressions, and everyone blamed his suffering on himself, but he is The Lamb of God, worthy to be praised.

But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed. Isaiah 53:5

Every mark, every drop of blood was for you, because of his ultimate sacrifice by His stripes we are healed, we are redeemed, all our chains are broken in Jesus Name Amen

Mark 5- Legion

But when he saw Jesus afar off, he ran and worshipped him, And cried with a loud voice, and said, What have I to do with thee, Jesus, thou Son of the most high God? I adjure thee by God, that thou torment me not. For he said unto him, Come out of the man, thou unclean spirit. Mark 5:6-8

Today we see again Jesus demonstrates his power and authority over the supernatural as Lord of Lords. He meets a Gentile who is possessed with multiple demons, living in a cemetery, cutting himself, the man has been overtaken by the demonic forces in his life.

Notice the reaction when the demons see Jesus, first they worship Christ, then they beg Jesus not to torment them. Notice as it is written “Every knee will bow” even the demons bow to the Lord Jesus Christ! Notice the title they address Jesus by “Son of the Most High God” , the demons know Jesus has the power and authority to destroy them

Jesus commands the demons to come out of the man! Notice the power and authority Christ has displayed against the demonic forces, this is a glimpse of the New Covenant

And he asked him, What is thy name? And he answered, saying, My name is Legion: for we are many. And he besought him much that he would not send them away out of the country. Now there was there nigh unto the mountains a great herd of swine feeding. And all the devils besought him, saying, Send us into the swine, that we may enter into them. Mark 5:9-12

Jesus commanded the demons to identify themselves, and they obeyed and revealed their name was Legion, because there was many of them. The word “Legion” was a Roman term, meaning potential tens of thousands. This man could have been possessed with numerous demons.

The demons begged Jesus not to send them away, meaning sending them to the Abyss! They beg Jesus to send them into a herd of pigs instead and he allows them to. Again notice the power and authority of Christ

And forthwith Jesus gave them leave. And the unclean spirits went out, and entered into the swine: and the herd ran violently down a steep place into the sea, (they were about two thousand;) and were choked in the sea. And they that fed the swine fled, and told it in the city, and in the country. And they went out to see what it was that was done. And they come to Jesus, and see him that was possessed with the devil, and had the legion, sitting, and clothed, and in his right mind: and they were afraid. Mark 5:13-15

When the pigs got filled with the demons they ran off a cliff and killed themselves. Notice the symbolism of their death, they drowned off a clif, foreshadowing the Lake of Fire, the future event for Satan and his demons

When the people saw the Gentile man  “in his right mind” they were terrified. Imagine that for a reaction. Instead of rejoicing over the man’s transformation , they wanted Jesus to leave! Does that sound familiar?

And when he was come into the ship, he that had been possessed with the devil prayed him that he might be with him. Howbeit Jesus suffered him not, but saith unto him, Go home to thy friends, and tell them how great things the Lord hath done for thee, and hath had compassion on thee. Mark 5:18-19

The man begged Jesus to let him go with him but Jesus told him “Go home and tell your friends the great things The Lord has done for you”  Are you telling others the great things Jesus has done for you?

Preach the gospel and tell them about Jesus Amen!

Mark 4- Jesus Calms The Storm

And the same day, when the even was come, he saith unto them, Let us pass over unto the other side. And when they had sent away the multitude, they took him even as he was in the ship. And there were also with him other little ships. And there arose a great storm of wind, and the waves beat into the ship, so that it was now full. Mark 4:35-37

One of the great demonstrations of Jesus deity is when he calmed the storm. There are many people, even today, who still believe that Jesus was only a man, or that he was only a prophet. Yet Jesus fully demonstrated that he has all power and authority over the supernatural and the natural world.

After teaching to massive crowds, Jesus and his disciples decided to get on a boat to cross the sea of Galilee, what’s important to note is Jesus was crossing the sea to preach to Gentiles. Why is this significant? Because the New Covenant is all about making us Children of God, Jew and Gentile, One Covenant under God

As they were crossing the sea of Galilee , a major storm broke out, causing some of his disciples to question their faith. Does that sound familiar? Often when life gets tough, that is when our faith is truly tested!

And he was in the hinder part of the ship, asleep on a pillow: and they awake him, and say unto him, Master, carest thou not that we perish? And he arose, and rebuked the wind, and said unto the sea, Peace, be still. And the wind ceased, and there was a great calm. And he said unto them, Why are ye so fearful? how is it that ye have no faith? Mark 4:38-40

After a long day of teaching, Jesus decided to take a nap, well his disciples were furious with him! How can you take a nap while we almost perish! Does this sound familiar in our own lives? When a storm of life arises, what do we do? We get angry at God, we blam him for all our troubles.

Jesus got up and rebuked the storm and it ceased immediately. Jesus demonstrated his power and authority as Lord of Lords. This is a demonstration of the New Covenant. A covenant with Christ with power and authority!

Why are you so fearful? Jesus asked his disciples, maybe Jesus is asking you this today also, why are you so fearful? Where is your faith? These words pierce the hearts of all believers. Jesus is questioning our faith!

And they feared exceedingly, and said one to another, What manner of man is this, that even the wind and the sea obey him?  Mark 4:41

Who is this man, that even sea obeys him? Jesus Christ demonstrated his power and authority over the natural and supernatural, the King of Kings and Lord of Lords. Every knee will bow and tongue will confess that Christ is Lord over all things Amen!

Mark 4- The Light of The World

And he said unto them, Is a candle brought to be put under a bushel, or under a bed? and not to be set on a candlestick? For there is nothing hid, which shall not be manifested; neither was any thing kept secret, but that it should come abroad. If any man have ears to hear, let him hear. Mark 4:21-23

Jesus said “We are the Light of the Word” (Matthew 5) “ A city on the hill can’t be hidden” (Matthew 5) Then why do we see few Christians out in the world letting their light shine in the darkness? Alot of Christians dont even want to go to Church anymore, they hide in their houses, sit on their couches, Jesus said “Is a candle to be put under a basket?” We the light of the world were not made to be hidden, we were made to spread the Light of Christ in this dark world

But you say “That Church is too corrupt” or “That place has too many bad people” Yes! The darker the place the better, the Light shines brighter in darker areas. Jesus said “There should be nothing hid, nothing kept secret” The gospel needs to be preached on the streets, from the rooftops, so everyone can hear!  There should be no secret clubs or meetings about Christ, that is a cult

And he said unto them, Take heed what ye hear: with what measure ye mete, it shall be measured to you: and unto you that hear shall more be given. For he that hath, to him shall be given: and he that hath not, from him shall be taken even that which he hath. Mark 4:24-25

Jesus is saying there is no excuse for you not to preach the gospel, “Make disciples of all the nations “ (Matthew 28:19) If you know the gospel then preach the gospel ,a light can’t be hidden, a city on the hill can’t be unnoticed. You can’t help build Gods Kingdom if you don’t reach out to people, this is our service and duty as a Christian

Reminds me of the old Sunday School song “This little light of mine, I’m going to let it shine” Are you letting your Light shine before others in this dark world? Now more than ever this dark world needs the light of Jesus Christ!

Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid. Matthew 5:14

Can you be the Light of the World if your hidden under a basket? Of course not, then why are you being disobedient to The Lords commands? As the song said “Don’t let Satan blow it out” , don’t let Satan be a stumbling block to your calling, be the Light in Jesus name Amen!

Mark 4- Parable of The Sower

Hearken; Behold, there went out a sower to sow: And it came to pass, as he sowed, some fell by the way side, and the fowls of the air came and devoured it up. And some fell on stony ground, where it had not much earth; and immediately it sprang up, because it had no depth of earth: But when the sun was up, it was scorched; and because it had no root, it withered away. And some fell among thorns, and the thorns grew up, and choked it, and it yielded no fruit. And other fell on good ground, and did yield fruit that sprang up and increased; and brought forth, some thirty, and some sixty, and some an hundred. And he said unto them, He that hath ears to hear, let him hear. Mark 4:3-9

Today we take a look at Jesus’ parable of the Sower, now the nice thing about this parable is Jesus actually explains it at the end, so there is no doubt what he is referring to. This parable is about the way people respond to the gospel, some receive it and have faith, some hear it , believe it, then when times get tough fall away, some never receive the gospel in their heart ever! So which group do you belong in?

The seed is the Word of God, the gospel of Jesus Christ! This is why it’s important we preach the gospel , share the good news with others, we don’t know who is going to receive it or who’s going to leave it. However it’s our duty to be sowers of the good news as Jesus commanded us in the Great Commision (Matthew 28:19)

Notice how Jesus ends the Parable “Let those who have ears , let them hear” meaning those who have not hardened their hearts and deafened their ears to the gospel by the Holy Spirit, let them receive the Word of God and be brought to Christ!

The sower soweth the word. And these are they by the way side, where the word is sown; but when they have heard, Satan cometh immediately, and taketh away the word that was sown in their hearts. And these are they likewise which are sown on stony ground; who, when they have heard the word, immediately receive it with gladness; And have no root in themselves, and so endure but for a time: afterward, when affliction or persecution ariseth for the word’s sake, immediately they are offended. And these are they which are sown among thorns; such as hear the word, And the cares of this world, and the deceitfulness of riches, and the lusts of other things entering in, choke the word, and it becometh unfruitful. And these are they which are sown on good ground; such as hear the word, and receive it, and bring forth fruit, some thirtyfold, some sixty, and some an hundred. Mark 4:14-20

Jesus explains his parable, one thing you will notice about the groups, really there are two groups: false converts and Born Again Christians. The first 3 groups either reject the gospel or receive it on false terms. We see this alot today with “Prosperity Gospel” “Cult groups” or “New Age Christianity” They don’t believe in the real Jesus or understand the real gospel. They look for a worldly Jesus to obtain pleasure and possessions now

The last group are the Born Again believers, they receive the true gospel and produce good fruit. Remember Jesus said “A bad tree can’t produce good fruit” (Matthew 7) Also “We will be known by our Fruit” (Matthew 7) There is evidence of our Born Again conversion with Christ

Regardless it’s up to God who becomes saved , sow the seed, preach the gospel to everyone in Jesus name Amen!

Mark 3- Blasphemy against the Holy Spirit

Verily I say unto you, All sins shall be forgiven unto the sons of men, and blasphemies wherewith soever they shall blaspheme: But he that shall blaspheme against the Holy Ghost hath never forgiveness, but is in danger of eternal damnation: Mark 3:28-29

There is one sin that Jesus said he will not forgive “Blasphemy of the Holy Spirit”, this should obviously be a dire warning to everyone, God will not be mocked. So the obvious question is “What is blasphemy of the Holy Spirit”?  The dictionary defines Blasphemy as “ Act of insulting , showing contempt, or lack of reverence towards God” or “Acting or claiming the attributes of a deity”

I think it’s interesting because in this statement, Jesus is basically declaring that the Holy Spirit is God. If the Holy Spirit wasn’t God, then blaspheming against him wouldn’t really be a sin. Notice the punishment, eternal damnation, Hell.

When you understand that we are dead in our sins (Ephesians 2) its the Holy Spirit that convicts us of our sin and leads us to Christ. If you reject this conviction or calling , this would be one example of blasphemy of the Holy Spirit. Many of the religious leaders knew the scriptures, they witnessed the miracles performed by Christ, yet they still rejected him, they rejected the Holy Spirit, which leads to eternal damnation

Because they said, He hath an unclean spirit. Mark 3:30

Notice Jesus charged the religious leaders with blasphemy because they accused him of being possessed with demons. Again this displays that Jesus is God also, if Jesus wasn’t God, then it really wouldn’t be blasphemy. But because God is Triune, Father , Son , and Holy Spirit, any rejection of the three is blasphemy and eternal damnation

Why did religious leaders reject Christ? Was it due to lack of evidence, no? Was it due to their lack of knowledge with scripture?, No, It was because they have hardened their hearts and loved their religion more than they loved the true living God. They made an idol out of their traditions and statuses, and rejected the calling of the Holy Spirit

Many even today have rejected the Holy Spirit, they claim not to know God or understand his direct revelation. But God knows their hearts, God knows their thoughts, God knows they have committed blasphemy of the Holy Spirit and will be eternal damned!
