Stump of Jesse Part 1

A shoot will come up from the stump of Jesse; from his roots a Branch will bear fruit. Isaiah 11:1

Matthew 1:1-16 explains the genealogy of Jesus and how he fulfilled the prophecy of being the stump of Jesse. Many would be quick to say David fulfilled this. But in order to fulfill the prophecy of the Messiah you have to be sinless, perform miracles, and become resurrected. No man but Jesus can fulfill this role.

Joseph, the Earthly Father of Jesus, was the son of Jacob who is a direct descendant of Jesse. Although Jesus isn’t the biological son of Joseph, his mother Mary being married to Joseph made the genealogy of Jesus official under Jewish law. Joseph accepted Jesus as his own son, even though he knew he was from God. Isn’t It awesome how God works in mysterious ways!

The Spirit of the LORD will rest on him– the Spirit of wisdom and of understanding, the Spirit of counsel and of might, the Spirit of the knowledge and fear of the LORD— Isaiah 11:2

When Jesus was baptized by John The Baptist (Matthew 3), everyone saw the Holy Spirit descended from him like a dove and God declared Jesus was his son.  The Spirit then lead Jesus into the wilderness for 40 days where he confronted Satan face to face (Matthew 4)

Jesus then went on and taught about the Kingdoms of Heaven and Hell , with knowledge and authority no one had ever seen or known. He went on the heal and forgive sins, which could only be done with the authority of God

and he will delight in the fear of the LORD. He will not judge by what he sees with his eyes, or decide by what he hears with his ears; Isaiah 11:3

Jesus showed mercy and forgiveness that was never seen before, (John 8) Jesus showed mercy and forgiveness on the adulteress woman who was about to be stoned to death.  He said l”et he who is without sin cast the first stone”, saying Judge and you will be judged also. Jesus judges by the heart which only he can see.

but with righteousness he will judge the needy, with justice he will give decisions for the poor of the earth. He will strike the earth with the rod of his mouth; with the breath of his lips he will slay the wicked. Isaiah 11:4

Jesus showed compassion towards the poor and needy, and rebuked the rich and greedy. He chased the merchants from the Holy Temple calling it a “Den of Thieves” (Matthew 21). He instructed the rich man to sell all his possession and give it to the poor (Matthew 19)

The Word of God is double-edged sword that strikes the wicked in the heart, Jesus identified himself as The Word and The Truth, he upset the wicked to the point it drove them to torture and murder him.

A Child is Born

For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. Isaiah 9:6

  • A child is born “ Luke 2:10 Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; he is the Messiah, the Lord.”
  • A Son is given “ John 3:16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.”
  • Governments will be on his shoulders “Revelations 19:16 “On his robe and on his thigh he has this name written: king of kings and lord of lords.”
  • Wonderful Counselor “ John 14:16 “Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.”
  • Mighty God- John 1:1 “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.”
  • Everlasting Father Revelation 22:13 “I am the Alpha and the Omega, the First and the Last, the Beginning and the End.”
  • Prince of Peace John 14:27 Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.”

Of the greatness of his government and peace there will be no end. He will reign on David’s throne and over his kingdom, establishing and upholding it with justice and righteousness from that time on and forever. The zeal of the LORD Almighty will accomplish this Isaiah 9:7

Jesus is the Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end. He was here in the beginning and he will be here forever, sitting on his throne as the King of Kings.

Many have yet to identify or accept Jesus as the Messiah, but make no mistake about it he has fulfilled all the prophecies in the Old Testament. The statistical probability of anyone being able to do this is astronomical. One day every knee shall bow and tongue will confess Jesus Christ is Lord of Lords.

The book of Isaiah actually teaches us a lot about Jesus, I will be going thru those prophecies in the next couple of weeks. Jesus didn’t come to condemn the world but to save it, let him save you today. He has already shed his blood for your sins, let his grace set you free in Jesus Name Amen
