Are You Listening?

“Whether it is pleasant or unpleasant, we will listen to the voice of the LORD our God to whom we are sending you, so that it may go well with us when we listen to the voice of the LORD our God.” Jeremiah 42:6

Are you listening to God even when it’s not pleasant news? The prophet Jeremiah was delivering a lot of bad news to Israel from God about their sinful ways and backsliding. It got to the point where God was tired of trying to get through to the Jewish people because they have closed their minds and hearts. Eventually they repented and told Jeremiah they would listen to God, even if it was unpleasant or bad news.

This describes a lot of Christianity nowadays. Many people like listening to God on the good parts such as Grace and Heaven, but most Christians become deaf when it comes to repentance and forgiveness. We can’t just read and listen to half the Bible, to truly get Gods message we need to listen to the pleasant and unpleasant things he is telling us.

Its like going to the medical doctor, most doctors are not going to sugar coat things and give it to you straight when it comes to your health. This is what we expect and respect from these professionals. If our unhealthy lifestyle or choices are killing us, we want the doctor to warn or tell us, this we expect from them.

The same is with God, don’t expect him to sugar coat your sins that is effecting your eternal life. He loves you enough to send his Son to die on a cross for your sins, expect him to be truthful and convicting of our sins. The question is are you going to listen to the pleasant and the unpleasant? Let the Holy Spirit convict you and cleanse you in Jesus Name Amen
