So he got up and came to his father. But while he was still a long way off, his father saw him and felt compassion for him, and ran and embraced him and kissed him. Luke 15:20
This weekend we celebrate Father’s Day, this is one of my favorite holidays because being a Father myself, I take great pride and honor in being a Father. I think it’s a role, that in modern day society likes to mock and dishonor. But I think taking on the role as a Father, is the greatest privilege and responsibility and glad God chose me to fulfill it!
When I think about being a Father and what does God expect from us, I reflect on the story of The Prodigal Son (Luke 15:11-31) Even though his son was rebellious and ungrateful, The Father still provided for the son and was merciful and compassionate with love. The Son eventually returned home and instead of The Father being filled anger, he welcomed his son with open arms and showed him true love and mercy.
This is the same relationship we can have with God our Heavenly Father. Even though at times we have been rebellious and ungrateful, God still provided Jesus to save us from our sins. And when we accept Jesus and come running back to God our Father, he greets us with open arms also not condemnation.
I want to say Thank you to my father, and thank you to my father in laws, for being great examples for me and always showing me love and mercy. I pray that I can be the best Father for my children, and show them the love and compassion throughout their entire lives in Jesus Name Amen
