Romans 2- Wrath of God

But after thy hardness and impenitent heart treasurest up unto thyself wrath against the day of wrath and revelation of the righteous judgment of God; Who will render to every man according to his deeds: To them who by patient continuance in well doing seek for glory and honour and immortality, eternal life: But unto them that are contentious, and do not obey the truth, but obey unrighteousness, indignation and wrath, Romans 2:5-8

The world will ask “Why do I need Jesus”? What most of the world doesn’t understand is everyday they are storing up wrath against themselves as they continue to rebel and live in sin against God. As the Apostle Paul says here “according to your hardness , stubborn, and impenitent or unrepentant heart” People who refuse to repent of their sins, have a hard heart to God, “you are treasuring or storing up wrath” Everyday you are adding more and more wrath to your final judgement

The world will say “Nobody can judge me” the reality is there will be day of judgement for everyone. As the Apostle Paul says “the day of wrath and revelation of the righteous judgement of God” People need to understand God will not be mocked, what they reap they will sow” (Galatians 6:7) People believe the lie told by Satan in the garden “You will certainly not die” (Genesis 3:4) The world believes the deception from the Father of Lies, and continues to rebel against God to satisfy the lusts of their flesh, storing up wrath daily

As the Apostle Paul states “Who (God) will render (judge, repay) everyone according to their deeds” This should put the fear of God into everyone, your actions and words will come to light and be judged. So much for the person crying “Don’t judge me”, that person is already condemned by their own sins. As it says in the gospel of John ““He who believes in Him is not condemned; but he who does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.” (John 3:18) Without Christ you are already condemned because of your sins

However there is good news (gospel) that Christ became flesh and died on the cross to pay for the penalty of your sins (2 Corinthians 5:21) This is why it is the Good News, most people don’t understand why its the best news because they don’t understand they are condemned in their sins already. As the Apostle Paul says here “To them by patience continuance (persistence, perseverance) in well doing seek for glory, honor, and immortality, He will give eternal life”

Christ will give you eternal life, are you seeking him (Matthew 7:7) Jesus is the only way to salvation (John 14:6, Acts 4:12) repent of your sins and put your faith in Jesus Christ as your Lord, become Born Again (John 3:3) filled with the Holy Spirit , to make you a new creation in Christ (2 Corinthians 5:7) a new heart for God to love Him with all your mind , heart, soul, and strength (Mark 12:30)   Amen

Romans 2- Don’t Judge?

Therefore thou art inexcusable, O man, whosoever thou art that judgest: for wherein thou judgest another, thou condemnest thyself; for thou that judgest doest the same things. But we are sure that the judgment of God is according to truth against them which commit such things. And thinkest thou this, O man, that judgest them which do such things, and doest the same, that thou shalt escape the judgment of God? Or despisest thou the riches of his goodness and forbearance and longsuffering; not knowing that the goodness of God leadeth thee to repentance? Romans 2:1-4

A popular thing we hear from the world today or even within Christianity is “Don’t judge me” , if you make any mention of sin or repentance, the person automatically assumes you are judging them, why? Because they are being convicted by the Holy Spirit for their sin, as Jesus said “He (The Holy Spirit) will convict the world of its sin” (John 16:8) This is why anytime you preach the true gospel or the Word of God, people are going to be offended, because they are being convicted of their sin by the Holy Spirit

So are Christians not to judge anyone, well yes and no. The reality is judgment is a part of life. As soon as you walk into a room, you are being judged. As soon as you started reading this blog, you judged, judgement is a part of life, its part of the way we analyze and make decisions as humans. And ultimately everyone will be judged by The Lord one day (Romans 14:10-12) If you think your going to escape judgment , I have bad news for you, everyone will be judged in the end.

So how do we reconcile these scriptures by the Apostle Paul, well he’s basically reinforcing what Jesus already taught us. As people love to take the words of Christ out of context “Judge not or you will be judged” (Matthew 7:1) Now most people stop there when quoting this, but Jesus has an entire teaching on this. “For the same way you judge other, you will be judged” (Matthew 7:2) Ah so now its starting to make more sense with some more context, its not that you are never going to be judged or  never judge, you must judge righteously. As Jesus continues “why do you look at the speck in your brothers eye, and pay no attention to the log in your own eye” (Matthew 7:3) Ok more context, don’t be condemning people if your living in sin also. Get right with God before you tell others how to live for God

Now look what the Apostle Paul says “for whatever you judge someone else, you condemn yourself, for you who judge practice the same things” We can’t be hypocrites , as the old saying goes “practice what you preach”, if you are judging people for their sins, and you are living in those sins also, you are condemning yourself. Pull the log out of your own eye, repent and get Born Again in Christ (John 3:3)

The Apostle Paul asks the question then “Do you think you will escape the judgement of God”? (v3) By pretending to be righteous and condemning others, do you not think your going to stand before The Lord also? Remember the grace and mercy God has shown you, remember to demonstrate this to others also, allow the Holy Spirit to do the convicting, and put your faith in The Lord Jesus Christ, Amen

Romans 1- Total Depravity

And changed the glory of the uncorruptible God into an image made like to corruptible man, and to birds, and fourfooted beasts, and creeping things. Wherefore God also gave them up to uncleanness through the lusts of their own hearts, to dishonour their own bodies between themselves: Who changed the truth of God into a lie, and worshipped and served the creature more than the Creator, who is blessed for ever. Amen. Romans 1:23-25

Idolatry has always been a major issue with humanity. Even if you go through the history of Israel, they kept creating and worshipping idols. God would command them to repent and remove their idols, they would and then go back to worshipping their idols. Its no different today in the Church. There have been many idols created within the Church, many people have created a false Jesus into their own image.

As the Apostle Paul says under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit “they changed the glory of the incorruptible God into an image made like to corruptible man” Are you worshipping the real Jesus Christ of the Bible? Or are you worshipping a false Jesus you have created in your own mind? That was created over tradition and false doctrine? If we are wrong about Jesus, doesn’t matter what we are right about!

The world loves to worship the creature rather than the Creator. We see this through everything, money, entertainment, sports, you name it, people have made an idol out of it. Eventually God has had enough, “God also gave them up to uncleanness or sinful desires, through the lusts of their own hearts” People love their sin more than they love God, eventually God will allow them to worship their sin. This is why you see the total depravity in humanity.

People ask what is wrong with this world? What happened to society? This is what happened, God gave them over to their sins, the people act like human animals looking to please the flesh at any cost. Carnally minded and headed to eternal destruction, they have no care in the world, except to please the flesh. As Paul says “to dishonour their own bodies between themselves” sexual immorality, transgenderism, homosexuality, all fruits of the flesh

They have changed the truth of God into a lie, this is what we see from a Romans 1 society also. Total depravity has become normalized, there is no spiritual discernment because they rejected the true God for their own idols they have created. They served the creature more than the Creator. There only hope is to be Born Again in Christ and be regenerated by the Holy Spirit, to create a new heart and mind, the gospel must be preached! Amen!

Romans 1- No Excuse

For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse: Because that, when they knew God, they glorified him not as God, neither were thankful; but became vain in their imaginations, and their foolish heart was darkened. Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools, Romans 1:20-22

The Word of God says “A fool says in their heart, there is no God” (Psalms 14:1) Many people today believe there is an easy escape from the wrath of God, to just pretend God doesn’t exist at all. They believe if they create crafty arguments to refute the existence of God, this will make them exempt of their sins. But don’t be deceived, God will not be mocked, what you reap is what you will sow (Galatians 6:7)

The Apostle Paul under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit, the evidence of God’s existence is clearly seen in Creation, therefore we are without excuse on judgement day. The human idea that we can trick or persuade God in believing we didn’t know He existed is blasphemy. God knows the intelligent design of His creation reveals the Creator. All the Bible says “The Heavens declare the glory of God and the firmament shows his handiwork” (Psalm 19:1)

One thing I would like to point out is that in the KJV translation, we see the reference to the “Godhead” this is a reference to the Triune God,  I find it interesting that “newer” English translations take out the reference to the Trinity. Among other scripture, because The Father, Son, and Holy Spirit were all part of Creation as they stated “Let Us Make Man in Our Image” (Genesis 1:27) So the Atheist who is made in the image of God, rejects and blasphemes his Father and Creator, we will be held without excuse on judgement day, as every knee will bow to The Lord Jesus Christ (Philippians 2)

Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools, this sums up the state of humanity. Ever since the garden of Eden, when man tried to be like God, to the tower of Babel, where man tried to reign like God, to today where man tries to eliminate God, we have become fools. Many in their depravity, deny the basics of common sense, that nothing can’t create anything. Yet the minds of the world, push this agenda to the masses, the scientific impossibility that nothing could become or create anything, this defies all science and common sense. This is why God considers these people fools, they are not being honest, because they love their sin more than they love God

Their foolish hearts have become darkened, and this describes the state of the world. The only way they can be enlightened is through Christ, they must become Born Again otherwise they will perish in their state of depravity, Amen

Romans 1- Wrath of God

For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who hold the truth in unrighteousness; Because that which may be known of God is manifest in them; for God hath shewed it unto them.  Romans 1:18-19

Most people today want to just focus on the “Love of God” this is obviously everyones favorite attribute of God, if God didn’t love the world, He wouldn’t have given us His Only Begotten Son Jesus Christ for salvation (John 3:16) He wouldn’t have created us in His image (Genesis 1:27) Gods love, grace, and mercy is beyond our human comprehension, where God demonstrated his love on the cross, even though we were still sinners Christ died for us (Romans 5:8)

However we need to understand God is Holy (1 Samuel 2:2) God Hates Sin (Proverbs 6:16, Psalms 5:4) Therefor God can’t be in the presence of sin, since we all have fallen short and sinned (Romans 3:23) We because of our sin have been separated from God. But Christ on the cross, paying the penalty for our sins, has reconciled us back to the Father (2 Corinthians 5:18-19) So understanding all of this, we need to understand just as God is Love (1 John 4:8) God is also Just (Deuteronomy 32:4) Therefor the Wrath of God will fall upon all repented people because of the wages of your sin (Romans 6:23)

So the problem with most people is even though they know God is Love, they don’t really Love God. If they truly loved God, they would repent of their sin and believe the gospel message of Jesus Christ (Mark 1:15) But most, as the Apostle Paul reveals, they love the creature rather than the Creator. They love their sin more than they love God. And the apostate “Churches” are teaching today to remain dead in your sins, which ultimately rejects the love and sacrifice of Christ. “For if we willfully and deliberately continue to live in sin , after we have received the knowledge of truth, there remains no more sacrifice for us” (Hebrews 10:26)

As the Apostle Paul revels later in the epistle, “The wages is death” (Romans 6:23) The wrath of God will fall upon those who continue to reject the Holy Spirit and live in the flesh, which is an enmity against God. Notice Paul says “They suppress the truth in unrighteousness or their wickedness” They know they are living in sin, yet they love their sin more than they love God. Therefor they will eventually be given over to their lusts and be destroyed just as the fallen angels.

Scripture also reveals “God has made it plain or manifest to them” they know they are sinning against God, but believe God will turn his eyes from their sin. Don’t be deceived God will not be mocked, what we reap is what we sow (Galatians 6:7) Amen

Romans 1- The Church

First, I thank my God through Jesus Christ for you all, that your faith is spoken of throughout the whole world. For God is my witness, whom I serve with my spirit in the gospel of his Son, that without ceasing I make mention of you always in my prayers; Making request, if by any means now at length I might have a prosperous journey by the will of God to come unto you Romans 1:8-10

While many Christians view “Church” as optional or unneccessary, here we see the deep love the Apostle Paul has for the Church of Rome. It’s a demonstration of love when we understand the Church is a family of God, a spiritual community of believers and not an institution. When others become our spiritual brothers and sisters through The Lord Jesus Christ. Without this foundation, your walk as a Christian is in serious danger of being led to the broad road of destruction

The Apostle Paul begins with saying “I thank God through Jesus Christ for you all” Wow, what a beautiful statement, have you thanked God for the brothers and sisters in your life? Can you imagine your life without the Church? Think about this, its only because of The Lord Jesus Christ we are saved and united, if none of us were saved, there is a good possibility many of our paths would have never crossed. The unity of Christ is a powerful thing, I think its often reminded and demonstrated during the sacrament of Communion. We are all united together by one bread and one cup, a remembrance of our Lord Jesus Christ and what He has already done for us all

So what influence does the Church have? Think about what the Apostle Paul says here “that your faith is spoken throughout the whole world” The Church of Rome was in the heart of the Roman Empire, the capital of paganism and wickedness. Yet the Church had a major influence on this wicked society, the Church of Rome was the salt and light Christ has called us to be, what influence does your Church have on your community? Is your Church involved in representing Christ in the community?

Another question is how often do you pray for your brothers and sisters in Christ? As the Apostle Paul says here “I make mention of you always in my prayers” Instead of criticizing your brothers and sisters, are you praying for them? If your not happy with the state of the Church, are you praying for them? Are you praying for your Pastor and Elders? Are you praying for the Holy Spirit to lead and guide your community? Prayer is a powerful thing, typically you can tell alot about someone’s spiritual life by their prayer life.

The Apostle Paul strongly desired to be with his brothers and sisters in Rome, his dedication to Christ and the Church ultimately led to him losing his life in Rome. Do you have a strong desire to fellowship with your brothers and sisters in Christ? Keep praying for the Church to be the Salt and Light in your community, to produce fruits of the Holy Spirit, to make disciples of everyone in the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, Amen!

2 Timothy 4- The Lord Is With You

But the Lord stood with me and strengthened me, so that the message might be preached fully through me, and that all the Gentiles might hear. Also I was delivered out of the mouth of the lion. And the Lord will deliver me from every evil work and preserve me for His heavenly kingdom. To Him be glory forever and ever. Amen!  2 Timothy 4:17-18

As we talked about previously, the Christian walk is not going to be an easy task, as Jesus said “If anyone wants to be my disciple, deny themselves, carry their cross, and follow me (Christ) (Matthew 16:24) This is a walk of discipline and obedience, it’s also a walk of persecution and suffering. As Jesus also said “if the world hates you, know it hated me (Christ) first (John 15:18)

But despite all of this, remember and understand this, The Lord is with you through all of it! As the Apostle Paul stated here “The Lord stood with me and strengthened me” , remember what the Apostle Paul also said “I can do all things through Christ who gives me strength” (Philippians 4:13) The Lord Jesus Christ is with you always, everywhere you go, and will strengthen you also during times of hardship and trials.

Through all this, the Apostle Paul understood what his mission was, “so that the message might be preached fully through me” Paul wasn’t looking for his “best life now” Paul was trying to finish his race, complete the higher calling that was placed upon him. This should be our mission also, to fulfill the calling God has placed upon us. To have an eternal perspective on life and not a temporary outlook. Seek the Kingdom of God first! (Matthew 6:33)

“That all the Gentiles might hear” The Apostle Paul preached the gospel to the entire world, this is what we should do also, to fulfill the Great Commision “Make disciples of ALL the nations (meaning everyone) (Matthew 28:19) Preach the gospel to ALL Creatures (everyone) (Mark 16:15) This is your higher calling as a servant of Christ, to preach the gospel and make disciples, and The Lord will be with you and strengthen you, through all things!

You were marked, you were bought with a price (1 Corinthians 6:20) As the Apostle Paul said “The Lord will deliver me from every evil work, and preserve me for His Heavenly Kingdom” Satan will try to destroy You and your ministry, but The Lord will deliver you, because it’s all for the Glory of God and not ourselves, fulfill your higher calling and understand The Lord is with You and will strengthen you through all things, Amen!

2 Timothy 4- Crown of Righteousness

Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day: and not to me only, but unto all them also that love his appearing. 2 Timothy 4:8

One day we will all have to stand before The Lord and give an account for our life, for Christians this is a glorious thought , for the unsaved this should be a terrifying thought. As scripture says “Its a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God” (Hebrews 10:31) This is why we preach the gospel with urgency to everyone, seek Jesus and become Born Again before its too late, because there are no second chances in Hell (Luke 16, Hebrews 9:27)

We talked about previously what it means to truly be a disciple of Christ, to carry your cross, to crucify your flesh and live for Jesus. Some would say, what is the point of all this? As a servant of Christ, its an honor and privilege to serve Christ, but also Jesus will reward your faithful service. As the Apostle Paul states here “There is a laid up for me a crown of righteousness” just as Paul compared the Christian walk with competing in a race or battle, the crown is the ultimate prize, the completion of a successful mission. As Paul also said “I press on toward the goal, so I can win the prize” (Philippians 3:14)

When we stand face to face with The Lord, we want to hear him say “Well done good and faithful servant” (Matthew 25:23) What we don’t want to hear from The Lord is “Depart from me , I never knew you” (Matthew 7:23) These have to be the most terrifying words in the entire Bible. But Jesus is worthy and able to give you the crown of righteousness because He is the righteous judge!

My question or challenge for you today, is are you striving for the crown of righteousness? When you stand before The Lord and give an account of your life, what will He say to you? Are you living for Jesus? Does your life reflect the profession of your faith?

Now I would like to just end with what the Apostle Paul says here “but not only me, but also all of them that love His appearance” the crown of righteousness is available to all who love Christ. But if you truly love Christ, does your life reflect this? Jesus said “If you love me, keep my commandments” (John 14:15) See what Paul is teaching here is not works or legalism, this is about relationship with our Living God! Amen!

2 Timothy 4- Fight the Good Fight

For I am now ready to be offered, and the time of my departure is at hand. I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith: 2 Timothy 4:6-7

While the Apostle Paul was writing this epistle, he knew his time was running short. And he was correct, Paul was executed by the Roman Empire during his imprisonment which he wrote this letter. But the Apostle Paul knew to live his life has a “Living Sacrifice” to God (Romans 12:2) as he states here “I am now ready to be offered, and the time of my departure is at hand” We also as Christians should learn to number our days (Psalm 90:12) and to live for Christ and fulfill our calling by God

Jesus said “If anyone wants to be my disciple, come after me, deny themselves, carry their cross, and follow me” (Matthew 16:24) This should be the mission statement for every Christian, any other expectation outside this mantra is not of the will of God. This is a hard reality for most Christians to accept, to take up your cross and die to self, to die to the world, to crucify the flesh daily, none of this seem natural to the carnally minded. But to those filled and led by the Holy Spirit, its the higher calling by our Lord

As the Apostle Paul states here “I have fought the good fight” Paul described the Christian walk as a battle, you are in a spiritual warfare (Ephesians 6) Paul never described the Christian walk as “living your best life now” this is a deception from the devil. This is a fight, this is a battle, this is a war for your soul and all the souls of the world. The greatest war in human history has been ongoing for centuries, and most don’t even realize they are in it. Fight the good fight of faith, as Paul also said “endure hardness as a soldier of Christ” (2 Timothy 2:3)

The Apostle Paul also said “I have finished my course” As Jesus said “Count the cost” (Luke 14:28) Becoming a Christian will cost you everything, Jesus warns before you profess your faith in Christ, understand the cost. As Paul said “You were bought with a price, you are not your own” (1 Corinthians 6:20) Many believe in Christ but fall away when the road gets tough, finish the course! Jesus also said “Those who endure to the end, shall be saved” (Matthew 24:13) Complete your higher calling in Christ, fight the good fight of faith!

Finally Paul says “I have kept the faith” seems like a simple statement, but many lose their faith when they enter into the battle. Put your full faith and trust in The Lord Jesus Christ in all things, even when we don’t fully understand Gods plan, understand we already have victory in Jesus, Christ has already overcome the world (John 16:33) Fight the good fight, Amen!

2 Timothy 4- Sound Doctrine

For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears; And they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables. But watch thou in all things, endure afflictions, do the work of an evangelist, make full proof of thy ministry. 2 Timothy 4:3-5

Once again the Apostle Paul, under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit, is revealing what it will be like in the Last Days. “For the time (Church age) will come, when they will not endure sound doctrine” We live in an age where most people who profess to be Christians, don’t want to hear the sound doctrine of the Bible, more evidence it seems we are living in the last days.

When you look around the Churches and see what is being preached from the majority of pulpits, most of its blasphemy, most of it is a complete denial of our foundational doctrine that has been given to us by the Holy Spirit. The majority of the Church today denies Jesus is God in the flesh, the majority of the Church denies they are sinners in need of repentance, a good portion of the Church denies the bodily resurrection of Christ, many deny the Virgin Birth, and so on and so on. If you don’t believe me, visit my YouTube Channel where I expose these heresies being preached from the pulpits.

We live in an age where good is called evil and evil is called good (Isaiah 5:20) But this is no surprise to God, as this was prophesied to happen, the great falling away will happen. As Jesus Christ said “For false christs and false prophets will rise and show great signs and wonders to deceive, if possible, even the elect.” (Matthew 24:24) Jesus also said “Those who endure to the end shall be saved” (Matthew 24:13)

So here’s the warning, don’t be deceived, because Christ said even some of the elect will be deceived. So what is the root behind these false teachings? As the Apostle Paul states “but after their own lusts, because they have itching ears” These are carnally minded people, not regenerated by the Holy Spirit. They want to feed the flesh, so they reject anything edifying by God. This is the root of all false religion, the flesh, the carnally minded and driven person

So what is their response “they will turn their ears away from the truth and shall be turned unto fables” Most people don’t want to hear the truth because they want to feed their flesh, they reject the Word of God, they reject the foundational doctrines of Christianity, they deny the knowledge of the Holy Spirit. This is the state of most of Christianity, clear evidence we are at the end

So what is our response as Born Again Christians? The Apostle Paul tells us “be watchful in all things, endure affiliations and hardships, do the work of an evangelist, fulfill your ministry” Amen!
