The Sign

As the crowds were increasing, He began to say, “This generation is a wicked generation; it seeks for a sign, and yet no sign will be given to it but the sign of Jonah. Luke 11:29

The world is continually looking for a sign. There is a lot of “Christian” literature and books about signs, this nation is fighting with this nation, this leader said this, however Jesus is saying “He is The Sign”!

Jesus references Nineveh, there only sign was an unwilling prophet named Jonah. Who eventually answered his calling and brought the nation to come to repentance. So was there some miraculous sign from God to bring the nation of Nineveh to repentance? No , there was one preacher with the Word of God

“For just as Jonah became a sign to the Ninevites, so will the Son of Man be to this generation. Luke 11:30

Jesus said “Jonah was the only sign for the nation of Nineveh, and Jesus will be the only sign to this generation. Now we can get into specifics about what specific group Jesus is reference here, however here’s the point, isn’t Jesus enough for you?

If you truly believe who Jesus says he is, shouldn’t that be enough? If Jesus is Immanuel, God in the flesh, and rose from the dead after 3 days, what more do you need? If you cant get excited about God coming down here to Earth to deliver us from our sins, what else is going to excite you?

If the resurrection of Christ, which is a historical fact, cant convince you then what else is there?

Seek God

So I say to you, ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you. Luke 11:9

This is a scripture that is often confused or twisted, people want to use this as trying to make God your “personal genie”, but this scripture has a lot deeper meaning than our superficial interpretation. Remember its God will be done not our will. Are your prayer requests aligned with the will of God?

Are you seeking God? Trying to understand his diving nature, trying to get closer to him as our Heavenly Father? Are you trying to deepen your personal relationship with your Lord and Savior? Are you seeking Truth? Do you ask God to reveal truth to you?

These are the things we should be praying for, not temporary personal wealth or objects. We should be seeking God to fill us with the Holy Spirit to truly understand and comprehend his nature

For everyone who asks, receives; and he who seeks, finds; and to him who knocks, it will be opened. Luke 11:10

Who can ask and pray to God for wisdom and understanding? Who can come before The Lord and ask for forgiveness of our sins? The Bible says Everyone, you don’t need a priest or a pastor to mediate for you, get down on your knees and talk to your Heavenly Father!

“If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to those who ask Him?” Luke 11:13

So when you read the entire Chapter in context , you see God will send you the Holy Spirit to all those who ask! This is what we should be seeking! Keep seeking God and asking for his wisdom and understanding! Knock and the door (Jesus Christ) will be opened Amen!

GOD First

Now as they were traveling along, He entered a village; and a woman named Martha welcomed Him into her home. She had a sister called Mary, who was seated at the Lord’s feet, listening to His word. But Martha was distracted with all her preparations; and she came up to Him and said, “Lord, do You not care that my sister has left me to do all the serving alone? Then tell her to help me.” Luke 10:38-40

Here is the tale of two women that have an encounter with Jesus. One woman (Mary) stopped everything she was doing to focus on Jesus, while the other woman (Martha) continued focusing on her daily tasks that she needed to get done. Can we relate to this? If Jesus visited you today, would you drop everything for him?

Some of us reluctantly would say Yes, but is that really true? Would you call off your important corporate job in fear of being fired? Would you not show up to your kids Soccer game for The Lord? Life is full of distractions, and its easy for us to be sucked into it. God should always be your highest priority, eternity is a lot more important than the things of this temporary world

But the Lord answered and said to her, “Martha, Martha, you are worried and bothered about so many things; but only one thing is necessary, for Mary has chosen the good part, which shall not be taken away from her.” Luke 10:41-42

Martha was so upset with her sister Mary, that she even complained to Jesus about her. But Jesus told Martha, your worried and distracted about pointless things. Cant we all relate to this? In the grand scheme of things, how often do we waste time on meaningless things?

Jesus confirmed Mary choose wisely, she put God first above all things. Do you love God with all your mind, heart , and soul?

Good Samaritan

Which of these three do you think proved to be a neighbor to the man who fell into the robbers’ hands?” Luke 10:36

When we call someone a “Good Samaritan” in todays society, we are usually referring to them as a nice person who did a good deed for someone. However the ironic thing is back in the 1rst century in Jewish culture, Samaritans were considered a sub-human race. They were Jews who breeded with other nationalities therefor making them “unclean” in the Jewish culture. They were considered outcasts and not worthy of being in the Jewish culture

So what changed? What brought these Samaritans into a good light? Jesus. The people who were once considered outcasts and unclean have now been entered into his grace. Those who were once not allowed in Gods presence now have God living inside of them. This is the powerful story of the Good Samaritan

And he said, “The one who showed mercy toward him.” Then Jesus said to him, “Go and do the same.” Luke 10:37

Notice Jesus wasn’t concerned about the nationality, or race, or gender. Jesus said the one who showed mercy, eventhough the one man was a priest and another man was a Levite (from the priest bloodline), these good deeds or nationality cant save you

Only the blood of Jesus Christ can save us, only the works that he finished on the cross can bring us salvation. Because of Jesus, the Samaritan and everyone else can be reconciled to our Heavenly Father Amen!

False Prophets

Then the Lord said to me, “The prophets are prophesying falsehood in My name. I have neither sent them nor commanded them nor spoken to them; they are prophesying to you a false vision, divination, futility and the deception of their own minds.

The Harvest

And He was saying to them, “The harvest is plentiful, but the laborers are few; therefore beseech the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into His harvest. Luke 10:2

Jesus is saying there is a lot of work to do for Gods Kingdom , yet he cant find anyone to do any work? Sound familiar? How many of you have ever coached or volunteered for an organization, and when you try to find anyone to help everyone runs away? Why? Because people want money, people want great recognition, people want to be famous, nobody wants to labor for free, right?

Again this is a heart issue, people still living for the world trying to merge Jesus with it. The world and Jesus will never coexist as they are in opposition of each other. Jesus says the laborers are few, the world tells us we have billions of Christians. Where are they? With these numbers we should have an evangelist at every street corner in the world

“Go; behold, I send you out as lambs in the midst of wolves. Luke 10:3

But you say “Oh they’ll make fun of me, they’ll mock me, they might even kill me” Yes Jesus said anyone who wants to save their life must lose it. When you come to Christ, nothing else is of more importance! What happens when lamb are around wolves? They get torn apart, likely killed. This is exactly what Jesus is preparing us for

Your persecution is not a surprise to Christ, he warned us this would happen! The harvest is plentiful, are you willing to go to work in the name of Jesus?
