As a literature teacher, I taught Greek mythology among other things. The Dyonysis explanation makes sense, especially in light of the weird blue guy. But I can see the resemblance to the Last Supper painting, too. I’m wondering if it was a deliberate setup to offend Christians then insult and embarrass them for being offended. Like the customer who knows he’s being watched, pretending to shoplift for the express purpose of embarrassing the security guard. (Just a theory. 🤷)
Providentially, my husband and I both fell asleep and missed that part of the ceremonies. When I woke up and saw the woman in the middle, mindful that this was France, I wondered if she was trying to look like the Statue of Liberty! 🤦🙄
One more thought: assuming the scene was a depiction of a feast of Dyonysis, they still have some explaining to do, considering one of the surfers had to remove a Christian symbol from his surfboard to avoid being disqualified for promoting a religion. Wasn’t this promoting the ancient Greek religion?🤨
