Spiritual Leprosy

And as he entered into a certain village, there met him ten men that were lepers, which stood afar off: And they lifted up their voices, and said, Jesus, Master, have mercy on us. Luke 17:12-13

Jesus entered a village on his way to Jerusalem and there was ten lepers crying out for Jesus to have mercy on them! These men had the disease of leprosy, this was a highly contagious disease that would deform you. By the Jewish culture these men were considered unclean and were banished from society. They no longer had rights as citizens to employment or property.

In the same way our Sin makes us Spiritual Lepers to God. We become deformed and unclean, we lose our citizenship to the Kingdom of God. Are you crying out to the Master to have mercy and transform you?

And one of them, when he saw that he was healed, turned back, and with a loud voice glorified God, And fell down on his face at his feet, giving him thanks: and he was a Samaritan. Luke 17:15-16

Jesus sent the Ten Lepers to show themselves to the priests to show they were redeemed. However only one of them ever gave Glory to God. Isnt this very similar to today? The grace of God which is a gift for all humanity, yet very few every praise God or even acknowledge him.

Notice also the one man who praised God was a Samaritan. Someone who was already considered an outcast because of their birthright is now a child of God because of the mercy of Jesus Christ

And Jesus answering said, Were there not ten cleansed? but where are the nine? There are not found that returned to give glory to God, save this stranger. And he said unto him, Arise, go thy way: thy faith hath made thee whole. Luke 17:17-19

Jesus notices who honors him and who forsakes him, he says I will save the stranger! Meaning whoever repents , receives Jesus as their Master, becomes Born Again into the family of God. As Jesus said, your faith has made you whole! Do you have complete faith in Jesus? He can remove your Spiritual Leprosy and make you Born Again!

Unprofitable Servants

And the apostles said unto the Lord, Increase our faith. And the Lord said, If ye had faith as a grain of mustard seed, ye might say unto this sycamine tree, Be thou plucked up by the root, and be thou planted in the sea; and it should obey you. Luke 17:5-6

The Apostles ask Jesus to increase their faith, but notice Jesus response. He didn’t say I’ll give you more faith to believe , he said if you guys actually had some faith you would be able to see Gods glory and power! See faith is a problem with us and not God

We limit Gods works but the limit of our faith in Christ. I was discussing this with a friend the other day, why do we not see the miracles performed today like we seen in the early church? Well how do we compare to the early church? In the book of Acts they sold everything, left everything behind to follow Jesus and serve him, are we doing the same today?

Absolutely not, our faith is pathetic compared to the early church , this is why we don’t see great miracles being performed today. Until we are all in, we will not see all of Gods glory and power!

So likewise ye, when ye shall have done all those things which are commanded you, say, We are unprofitable servants: we have done that which was our duty to do. Luke 17:10

But we as Christians love to brag about all the things we do. We brag because we worship 1 day a week, we brag because we actually read our Bible, compare this to the early church. It says they were worshipping daily , breaking bread (communion), preaching the gospel in the streets even if it meant losing their life

Jesus said I commanded you to do these things, don’t look for credit or fame. This is your duty as a Christian!

Jesus Loves The Little Children

It were better for him that a millstone were hanged about his neck, and he cast into the sea, than that he should offend one of these little ones. Luke 17:2

I’m going to talk about a topic nobody wants to, but it has to be addressed. It’s the issue of pedophiles in the Church. This is not just a Catholic Church issue, as we have seen reports of pedophiles across denominations. Nobody wants to talk about it, but we as Christians need to protect our children and call out the heretics in the church!

Jesus made it clear, anyone who harms a child, it would be better if they have never been born. I cant imagine the judgment that these wicked people will face, but I also look forward to justice being served! We as parents, grand parents , guardians, teachers, coaches, pastors, ect. its our duty to protect the innocent children at all cost.

Don’t think having loyalty to your church or organization , when they are engrossed in sin, is going to please God. The wrath of God will be upon this false church and all the people guilty of these crimes. God will not be mocked!

And whoso shall receive one such little child in my name receiveth me. But whoso shall offend one of these little ones which believe in me, it were better for him that a millstone were hanged about his neck, and that he were drowned in the depth of the sea. Matthew 18:5-6

As the Sunday School song says “Jesus does love the little children” and anyone who harms one of them will have “Hell” to pay literally. Jesus is not going to defend or tolerate pedophiles and neither should we! Protect your children, if you suspect your church has pedophiles in it, flee from that church, call them out! Don’t allow the traditions of man to take away the innocence of your children!

Heavenly Father, we pray for all your little children, we pray you put a hedge of protection around them and guard them with your angels. We pray for parents and leaders to give them wisdom and understanding to guard these children and mentor them in Jesus name Amen!

Rich Man and Lazarus

And in hell he lift up his eyes, being in torments, and seeth Abraham afar off, and Lazarus in his bosom. And he cried and said, Father Abraham, have mercy on me, and send Lazarus, that he may dip the tip of his finger in water, and cool my tongue; for I am tormented in this flame. Luke 16:23-24

The story of the rich man and Lazarus is not only one of the most powerful revelations Jesus gave to us, but its also one of the most highly debated stories also. Many will argue this is just a parable instead of a true story. The reason we know it’s a story is because Jesus uses real names in it. Unlike all the parables Jesus taught that never included names

Second most translations will use Hades instead of Hell. While reading the story you’ll see the rich man is eternally conscience being tormented in a flame. This sounds like Hell to me, Hades is typically translated as the grave or realm of the dead.

But Abraham said, Son, remember that thou in thy lifetime receivedst thy good things, and likewise Lazarus evil things: but now he is comforted, and thou art tormented. Luke 16:25

The rich man lived like a King on this Earth, while the poor man suffered. What did it profit this rich man to gain the entire world yet lose his soul? Nothing, this world is temporary but your soul is eternal , choose wisely

And he said unto him, If they hear not Moses and the prophets, neither will they be persuaded, though one rose from the dead. Luke 16:31

Notice once you are dead, there are no second chances of salvation. There is no purgatory or repentance in Hell. Our time is running short, follow Jesus or perish! Notice Jesus also prophecies here about his own resurrection.

And Jesus was right, he rose from the dead over 2,000 years ago, yet millions still deny him and are going to Hell. Don’t follow the broad way of this world, get on the narrow path of life in Jesus Christ! Amen!

Come To The Father

I will arise and go to my father, and will say unto him, Father, I have sinned against heaven, and before thee, And am no more worthy to be called thy son: make me as one of thy hired servants. Luke 15:18-19

The story of the Prodigal Son is one of the greatest stories in the Bible, a story we can all relate to us we all have wandered away from the Father in our sin. But our Father great in love and mercy welcomes us back into his arms and Kingdom.

However one thing to note here is the Prodigal Son repented on his way back to the Father. The Son realized and admitted his ways were wicked and offensive to God. He realized in his sinful state he is not even worthy to be in the presence of a Holy God.

We need to understand this also on our way back to the Father. We must repent, meaning turn away from our sins, and ask God for forgiveness.

And he arose, and came to his father. But when he was yet a great way off, his father saw him, and had compassion, and ran, and fell on his neck, and kissed him. Luke 15:20

How does our Heavenly Father respond when we come with sincere repentance? He greets us with open arms as one of his children. We must understand our God is a God of love and mercy. When you come to the Father in honesty he will forgive you. Don’t spend another day away from your Heavenly Father!

You might say how can I come back to the Father? Jesus said Nobody comes to the Father except through Him. Call upon the name of Jesus Christ, repent of your sins, and you shall be saved!

Lost and Found

What man of you, having an hundred sheep, if he lose one of them, doth not leave the ninety and nine in the wilderness, and go after that which is lost, until he find it? Luke 15:4

Life can be very overwhelming, when we think about our relationship with God, its easy to convince ourselves that God is too busy for me or doesn’t even know me. However when you listen to the teachings of Jesus, God leaves the 99 righteous to go find the 1 who is unsaved

This seems to contradict what we see in modern day Christianity. “Churches” hang out in social clubs and how many of them are going after unsaved people? Mission trips are good but if you cant even evangelize to your next door neighbor, why are you traveling across the world? Go preach the gospel to your neighbors first!

And when he hath found it, he layeth it on his shoulders, rejoicing. Luke 15:5

What happens when that sinner comes to Christ? He rejoices! He carries you on his shoulders! Don’t reject Jesus out of fear of your past sins, the debt has been paid by Christ already. Come with repentance and the Lord will carry you home!

And when he cometh home, he calleth together his friends and neighbours, saying unto them, Rejoice with me; for I have found my sheep which was lost. I say unto you, that likewise joy shall be in heaven over one sinner that repenteth, more than over ninety and nine just persons, which need no repentance. Luke 15:6-7

All of Heaven rejoices when you repent and come back to the Father! There is no condemnation for those who are in Jesus Christ. Are you lost today? Are you hiding in your sins? Jesus the Good Shepherd is calling you today, answer the call and let him carry you to the Father Amen!

Answer The Call

And sent his servant at supper time to say to them that were bidden, Come; for all things are now ready. Luke 14:17

Are you ready? You have been invited to sit at the Lords Table, are you answering the call? The word here bidden in the original Greek means invited but also called. You were called by Jesus Christ to come sit at his table, but are you really going to come?

We all say “Yes “ we want to be saved and sit in the presence of The Lord, but is that actually true? Would you drop everything right now to go serve Jesus? You say “But wait I was talking about later in the future”, but Jesus has already called You, are you answering?

And they all with one consent began to make excuse. The first said unto him, I have bought a piece of ground, and I must needs go and see it: I pray thee have me excused. And another said, I have bought five yoke of oxen, and I go to prove them: I pray thee have me excused. And another said, I have married a wife, and therefore I cannot come. Luke 14:18-20

We see several people here called to serve The Lord but they all got excuses not to actually come! One is getting married, the other is buying property, another is tending to his cattle. We all have excuses also, we have our careers to attend to, we have sports practices, we have our properties to maintain. We have a lot of excuses not to answer our calling to Jesus

And while all these things seem super important right now in the temporary , from an eternal perspective do any of these things matter? This is a hard question, but its something we should ponder in our hearts.

As Jesus said “Many are called, but few are chosen” Are you answering you call from Jesus?
