And he said unto them, With desire I have desired to eat this passover with you before I suffer: Luke 22:15
Sometimes we can feel distant from Jesus, we can feel like all our worship and actions are in vein. However one of the reasons Jesus instituted “Communion” was for us to have that interaction and closeness with him. As Jesus says here: “He desires to have this Passover with You”
Now you might say, “Jesus is talking about the Passover meal”, however what happened at this Passover meal? Jesus introduced the Lords Supper during this meal, this was also the time before Christ went to the cross for us. I believe Communion is the fulfillment of the Passover meal
And he took bread, and gave thanks, and brake it, and gave unto them, saying, This is my body which is given for you: this do in remembrance of me. Luke 22:19
Jesus said to “Do this in remembrance of Me”, meaning not to do this once a month or once in a while. Jesus commanded us to have communion with him, why? To have that relationship with him, to declare that you are part of his New Covenant, to profess your faith in Jesus Christ!
The bread is broken, just as Jesus body was broken on the cross for your sins! Do this in remembrance of Him!
Likewise also the cup after supper, saying, This cup is the new testament in my blood, which is shed for you. Luke 22:20
The words “Testament” and “Covenant” are used simultaneously. Your Bible is split up in the Old Testament (Covenant) and the New Testament (Covenant). What changed between Malachi and Matthew? The Messiah (Christ) came and broke his body and shed his blood for your sins.
And he rose again on the 3rd day to defeat sin and death forevermore. This cup in Communion is the symbol of his blood which is the New Covenant Amen!
Unashamed of Jesus

Communion is something that the Lord has laid heavily on my heart. One of the things I often ask Him is who is to partake of this meal…many churches today believe firmly that it’s for believers only. I’m not convicted of that yet.

Apostle Paul teaches we are not to take communion in an unworthy manner 1Corinthians 11
The early church only baptized born again believers took communion
Honestly I don’t see why a non believer would want to take communion as it’s a declaration of our covenant with Christ

Judas took communion…was he a believer?
Apostle Paul does teach not to take in an unworthy manner. He talks about the have’s and the have not’s. He says that while one goes away satisfied, others go away starving.
The Bible I read says that Jesus blood was spilled and His body was broken for all….yet, when it comes to communion, we get a sense of entitlement about us…like I’m more worthy to take of the offering than the nonbeliever sitting next to me. But His body and His blood was just as much for the nonbeliever as it was for me.
Jesus instructs us to do this in remembrance of Him…yet we fail to remember the best part of what He did – He died for all of us while we were still sinners. While we were still yet sinners….His body and His blood was broken for all.
Then we approach the table, us “have’s” with our self righteous views, meanwhile the “have not’s” go away starving – lacking what they do not know they need.
I think about the meal, sitting there with Jesus – why would a nonbeliever want to partake? I know they wouldn’t today with the way we do it, also probably why the Apostle Paul wrote that many among us our sick. But when Jesus was there, sitting there passing out the bread that He broke, and the wine He poured out, I believe a nonbeliever would have been welcome to come. I don’t see Jesus looking over at Judas and saying sorry this meal isn’t for you. Essentially that’s what we say when we allow only certain people to come to the table. Sorry, Jesus’ body isn’t for you. His blood isn’t for you.
We made it a tradition and a ritual, and forgot the most important part of communion with Him…He died for us all, believers or not, sinners and saints…and He said all who drink from His cup will never thirst again…yet we put up gates and chains to keep those from coming that are in need of a drink.

27Therefore, whoever eats the bread or drinks the cup of the Lord in an unworthy manner will be guilty of sinning against the body and blood of the Lord. 28Each one must examine himself before he eats of the bread and drinks of the cup. 29For anyone who eats and drinks without recognizing the body eats and drinks judgment on himself. 30That is why many among you are weak and sick, and a number of you have fallen asleep. 1 Corinthians 11
I think Paul is saying anyone partaking in Communion with unrepented sin is guilty of the Lords death…this is why he warns non believers to not partake
Obviously if your not a believer than you have not repented of your sin and have not accepted Jesus as your Lord
I think Judas is a mystery on many levels and I wrote a post about him a few days ago
I appreciate the conversation as I’m very passionate about Communion also…I agree the modern Church is doing it all wrong today and not frequent enough
But I do think we need to repent of our sins before we take communion…as the Apostle Paul says to “Examine Ourselves”
