No Longer Slaves

For we know that our old self was crucified with him so that the body ruled by sin might be done away with, that we should no longer be slaves to sin- Romans 6:6

When we see pictures of Jesus on the cross, what comes to mind? When you look at Christ on the cross, you should see yourself also. Because Jesus didn’t die for his sins or actions, because he is holy. Christ died for your sins. All of our sins and transgressions has put Jesus on the cross. See when you see Christ on the cross, you should see yourself.

But because Jesus tasted death for us, we are no longer slaves to sin and death. See your old self died on that cross, and when Jesus was resurrected, you were resurrected also. This is why we live and die with Christ. We died with him on the cross and we also rose with him from the tomb. Its through Christ we have victory!

So knowing this, we can only live holy lives. Since you were baptized by the Holy Spirit and raised from the dead, you can’t go back to your old self. The wages of sin are death, and Jesus took the death for you. Therefore you must live a holy life, worth pleasing to your Heavenly Father. So when you see a cross, remember you have already died on it and have been delivered from its wrath through Christ in Jesus Name Amen

You make an excellent point about seeing a cross, which represents Christ’s sacrifice for us, and seeing ourselves on that cross, then buried with Christ, then raised with Christ. Nice. Well put.

Lately I’ve thought a lot about Redemption and Preservation, and our responsibilities/obligations that come with the freedom Jesus secured on the cross on our behalf. The gospel is simple; the gospel is complex. The simple part, for us, is being redeemed and granted eternal live. The complex part is how we work out the life we know live for Christ, in Christ. Christ redeemed us for eternity with Him; Christ preserves us in our life on Earth so that we may be His here, now. . . And there is so much more, so much richness in this New Life, this New Abundant Life.

Lord Bless, Keep, Shine. . .
