Lamb of God

The next day John saw Jesus coming toward him and said, “Look, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world! John 1:29

Why is Jesus referred to as The Lamb of God? To fully understand this you need to understand The Old Testament. God required a sacrificial lamb for peoples sins. But not just any lamb, but a lamb that was pure and unblemished.

Jesus is that sacrificial lamb for us all, even though he was sinless, he took our sins to the cross so we could become righteous to stand before God. When you understand this, you understand how much God truly loves you.

This is the one I meant when I said, ‘A man who comes after me has surpassed me because he was before me. I myself did not know him, but the reason I came baptizing with water was that he might be revealed to Israel.” John 1:30-31

God sent John the Baptist here to be a messenger, to pave the way for The Lord. John prepared everyone by telling everyone to confess their sins and become baptized. John brought to light the issue of sin, that is what has separated us from God.

When people realize the seriousness of sin and confess that we are all sinners and have fallen short to the glory of God. Then you understand what Jesus has done for us and why he did it for us. Without Jesus there is no hope or salvation for humanity.

Then John gave this testimony: “I saw the Spirit come down from heaven as a dove and remain on him. John 1:32

John was one of the many witnesses who saw the Holy Spirit descend down on Jesus, this event was described in greater detail in the other gospels. Once again John has fulfilled his role as the messanger and a witness to our Messiah Jesus.

And I myself did not know him, but the one who sent me to baptize with water told me, ‘The man on whom you see the Spirit come down and remain is the one who will baptize with the Holy Spirit.’ I have seen and I testify that this is God’s Chosen One.” John 1:33-34

Even though Jesus walked among us, many never recognized him. The King of Kings lowered himself below the angels to save our souls. John testifies Jesus is The Son of God, as he heard God himself declare this from the Heavens. Worth is The Lamb of God in Jesus Name Amen
