Countdown to Christmas Day 14

Behold, the days come, saith the LORD, that I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel, and with the house of Judah: Jeremiah 31:31

This prophecy was fulfilled with the birth of Jesus, as him being the Messiah he brought the new Covenant not just with Israel but all who believe in him. So what was the old and new covenant?

The old Covenant was Gods original plan for his people to avoid sin and be forgiven for there sins. The core of the old Covenant was the Commandments God gave Moses for everyone to live by (Exodus 34:28) “And he was there with the LORD forty days and forty nights; he did neither eat bread, nor drink water. And he wrote upon the tables the words of the covenant, the Ten Commandments.”

Also part of the old law was sacrifices and burnt offerings to God. Why was this necessary? For the repentance of everyone’s transgressions. (Exodus 20:24) “An altar of earth thou shalt make unto me, and shalt sacrifice thereon thy burnt offerings, and thy peace offerings, thy sheep, and thine oxen: in all places where I record my name I will come unto thee, and I will bless thee.”

But as people continued to sin and forget about God, he knew the only way to save the world was to send Jesus and begin the New Covenant (Hebrews 9:15) “For this reason Christ is the mediator of a new covenant, that those who are called may receive the promised eternal inheritance–now that he has died as a ransom to set them free from the sins committed under the first covenant.”

So what is the New Covenant exactly? Jesus sacrificed himself to forgive us for our sins; it’s only thru the blood of Jesus we are redeemed worthy to stand before God. Before Christ this would not have been possible. ( Romans 5:9) “Much more then, being now justified by his blood, we shall be saved from wrath through him.”

Most importantly the New Covenant now includes all of us and not just Israel. Whoever believes Jesus as your Lord and Savior will have Eternal Life.(John 3:15) As Paul said in (Galatians 3:28) “There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither bond nor free, there is neither male nor female: for ye are all one in Christ Jesus.”

So this Christmas Let’s Celebrate our King, for without Jesus we would not be saved. Keep Christ in Christmas and in your hearts Amen
