Love your Enemy

“Sit at my right hand until I make your enemies a footstool for your feet.” Psalm 110:1
It’s easy to pray for your family and friends, but what about your enemies are you praying for them? Most likely were not which is understandable, however you might be doing yourself a disservice by not.
God tells us he will make our enemies our footstool, this is referenced several times in the Bible (Psalms, Luke, Acts, Matthew, Hebrews) but what does it actually mean?
As it says in Exodus 14:14 “The LORD will fight for you; you need only to be still.” We don’t need to fight our enemies, God will take care of them for us. He will either change their hearts or move them.
As God did for Moses and the Israelite, he hardened the hearts of the Egyptians until they finally released them from slavery without a fight. The when the Egyptians decided to attack them he saved them by parting the Red Sea. He made the Egyptians there footstool by just following him.
We need to remember God is in control; no force is greater as it says in Deuteronomy 3:22 Do not be afraid of them; the LORD your God himself will fight for you.”
What about forgiveness? It says in Matthew 6:14 “ For if you forgive other people when they sin against you, your heavenly Father will also forgive you.” Sometimes you need to learn to let things go and let God take over.
I think Romans 12:17-21 sums it up best Repay no one evil for evil, but give thought to do what is honorable in the sight of all. If possible, so far as it depends on you, live peaceably with all. Beloved, never avenge yourselves, but leave it to the wrath of God, for it is written, “Vengeance is mine, I will repay, says the Lord.” To the contrary, “if your enemy is hungry, feed him; if he is thirsty, give him something to drink; for by so doing you will heap burning coals on his head.” Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.
Notice it says when you stay in peace with you enemy it just agitates them more; sometimes your best weapon against your enemy is to just love them.
As it says in the scripture we need to learn not to repay evil with evil. Let’s rise up and have Christ living thru us and show our enemies that they won’t and can’t break us in Jesus Name Amen

    The topic of praying for one’s enemies has been on my mind quite a bit lately. This is a very good post, thank you for sharing the fact that we need to look at AND love our enemies as God loves the believers…AND the unbelievers. He wants everyone to come to Him, and we should want the same. That means we need to love and pray for those who may hate us and despitefully use us…

        Praying for one’s enemies isn’t a “natural” kind of human emotion for so many of us, if any at all! It is only with a Godly heart that we can do it with sincerity…

    Another awesome message! Thanks for sharing.

    At the onset of my current season of suffering, I found myself begging and pleading that God would bring relief and deliver me from my circumstances. But, as I began to grow closer to Him through all that I’m going through and as He dealt with all of those hidden sins and evils within me, I saw that like my enemies, I too am very much flawed and unlovable – but for the blood of Jesus that has redeemed me. Now, though I still look forward to deliverance, it’s not at the forefront of my mind anymore.
    All that I really desire is to be like Christ and have a heart overflowing with love and forgiveness for those who hurt me. “Owe nothing to anyone except to love one another; for he who loves his neighbor has fulfilled the law.” Romans 13:8
